I’ve heard so many good things about this place and decided to give it a go. Here’s my thoughts:
Atmosphere: they really seem to be focused on their atmosphere. With a rather aggressive sign on the door stating they don’t allow outside drinks or food because they want people to enjoy the atmosphere or something like that. You can tell they worked hard on decor. But I’m not a huge fan of the open ceilings. It kinda feels like I’m in a decorated warehouse. Speaking of feeling like you’re in a ware house- I wish they would separate the retail from the dining. I don’t particularly like feeling the clutter of the retail space while I’m trying to eat. Also, the music is a little loud. I like to read and drink my coffee.
Food: the food is good with lots of good options. The coffee exceeded my expectations and the food was ready quick and hot. However, they charged me for water. I’ve heard they don’t allow you to bring even a water bottle in here- but then they charge you to hydrate you. You aren’t gonna target the millennial/gen z’s if you don’t let us bring our emotional support water bottle. It is what it is. We like to hydrate.
The concept: the idea behind this place is great! I love the events they have- the toddler play space right next to a table so you can eat and enjoy while your kid plays safely. ( however it sucks you have to walk your toddler through the retail space to get there, I have a screaming toddler that wants to touch all the breakable items in the store) I heard they do story time with kids and I’ve also seen the various other events they offer. This place is amazing for a sense of community.
Long story short: the idea is amazing. But the execution could use some work. Would I come back? Probably. But will this be my GO-TO multiple times a week? No. It could be my go to if they change a couple things- don’t be such a nazi about water bottles, remove the unwelcoming sign out front about outside food and drink, and possibly reorganize the space so that the retail is separate...
Read moreI have not had many issues with the service, although I was confused when I first came in on how to order. I have been to the old location before, so the new one took a bit to figure out. Generally, the employees have been polite. My main complaint is with the food, mostly the bakery items. I am not sure if it's because I come later in the day, but the bakery items seem almost fake. I have ordered the crumb cake and berry pastry before, but was extremely disappointed. I love crumb cake, and despite the crust of theirs not looking appealing, I gave it a try anyways. The bottom layer of the cake was dense, as if the dough is overworked or undercooked. Also, I am not sure what their recipe is but it tasted strongly of some sort of extract as though they used too much. I expected a soft and buttery texture, but it was quite unappetizing. The berry pastry was the same, although it looked appealing, it was dense and not as flaky as it looks. I have not bothered to try any of their other pastries as they don't even look tasty. The savory foods, like the charcuterie boards, sandwiches, and flats is what I usually come for, as well as the atmosphere (perfect to study or relax). I have ordered the capri flatbread before and it was delicious, so I ordered it again. This time, however, the flatbread was stale, as though it has been sitting out all day and all they did was reheat it. Generally, their ingredients taste fresh and the flavors are well combined, but something about their pastry and bread making might need to be updated. I do consistently enjoy their coffee, and although it is not very sweet, it is still delicious and never tastes burnt like other coffee shops. Considering their food is a bit pricey, I think the inconsistencies need to be looked at. I know this place has wonderful potential and I enjoy the new location, so I have not given...
Read moreCoastal Fog is one of the best places to visit in Greenville NC; it's elegant, it's classy, it's relaxing, it's peaceful, it's kid friendly- it's A Lot of "good" things! I absolutely love the new establishment! The former establishment was cool, but the current establishment is like WOW! It's a great place to shop, eat, relax, enjoy friends and family, play a few games, learn, or even get some work done! All of the attendants that I encountered were friendly and welcoming. For first timers, I recommend that you walk around first, just to get the feel of the store; trust me, you dont want to miss anything in there! If you're looking to order food, when you walk in, look to the left, just past the ice cream station for the line to order food or pay for merchandise. I was a little confused on where to order when I initially walked in, being that the food station is straight ahead when you walk in, it just seemed natural to maybe order there... but maybe I was just distracted by all of the beautiful array! They have a great number of table sets to enjoy a meals, pastry, dessert, coffee, wine, etc. Now, be looking to spend an amount out of the ordinary, but whatever you purchase, it's worth every cent. They sell everything from food, to beverages, to cooking/serving accessories, cook books, plants, clothing, soaps/body care, candles, home decor, jewelry, and more! Coastal Fog is very unique, and I just can't say enough good about it! Remember to leave a note of encouragement or prayer to hang on the wall; this adds a touch of awesomeness to the business! OAN: The parking lot seems just a little congested, but absolutely nothing to complain about. Enjoy your...
