My experience here was not your typical repair job on say a smartphone, tablet or computer, but rather on a gaming controller that actually had nothing wrong with it. Yet. But I wanted to make sure that nothing would go wrong with it eventually. Prior controllers had a habit of breaking due to a fault known in gaming circles as stick drift. When I found this shop they listed themselves as being able to repair this flaw, but I wanted to eliminate it outright before I even started using it. I however lack soldering skill and tools so I asked if they could replace the stock part with a part that would last potentially much longer. They said that they could for $40, which I thought was more than a fair price.
I sourced the part that I wanted them to use, and they gave me an estimate of 24-48 hours. A word of warning if you follow this process of requesting you use a part you source: They cannot offer you any warranty or guarantee on the work. And rightfully so.
The job was definitely done within that time frame. I received a call during that time from the technician asking me if I really wanted to do this, that it looked like a brand new controller. I confessed that yes, I had given them one specifically for this purpose and that I was okay with it. To me that shows they took the time to look inside of it at the condition before doing anything, and I greatly appreciate that.
When I received the controller back I tested it at the shop, and noticed calibration was a little wide. (Software calibration must be done on the part after an install like this.) I was able to take it home and calibrate it a lot closer to what is expected. But as I did so, I inspected the controller only to notice the screws holding the controller together were missing. I went back to the shop and they found the screws that were missing and put them back.
I have been using the controller for a while now with no sign of any issues or errors. And while alls well that ends well, I feel that this place is more suited to repairs than asking for modifications, which is in the realm of what I did. Would I come back to them? More than likely, yes! But I would probably come back for something a little more conventional like a busted screen or truly broken equipment. I wasn't sure if my request was too obnoxious, but they were happy to accomodate me, and...

However, over the following few weeks, the left side of the screen began to lift away from the case. Eventually, the screen started to have issues, so I took it back to GadgetMates to see what could be done as it was within my 30 day warranty. They took it back and applied more adhesive, and returned the phone to me a few hours later with no charge.
Another few weeks pass, and the same thing begins happening again. Same lifting in the same area. This time, I take it to GadgetMates for another fix. The gentleman who took it in had it ready an hour later. He assured me that he used the strongest adhesive available, and that it would be very difficult to ever get that screen off. I was grateful, because we were moving out of state in literally 4 days.
About 2 weeks later, guess what happens? You got it! The screen began lifting again, and again on the left side. Only this time, the screen goes black and is totally unresponsive.
Since there is no GadgetMates where I now reside in Arizona, I took it to a Google certified repair location (given this is a Google phone). The gentleman there tells me he has all the parts but if he can fix the screen that is currently on the device (the one GadgetMates installed), there would be no charge.
We come back a few hours later per his request, and he did in fact have to replace the entire screen I had replaced less than 2 months ago with GadgetMates. He showed me the screen I got from GadgetMates, and they had applied HARDWARE STORE ADHESIVE (not the kind you use with sensitive touchscreen electronic devices) to the screen itself, and it had corroded the LEDs, leading to a ruined screen.
So I was out $200 plus tax when I had GadgetMates "fix" my phone, and 2 months later I am out another $200 plus tax to have another repair shop fix the problems GadgetMates made.
Unfortunately, I would encourage you to steer clear of GadgetMates and use only repair shops endorsed by your phone's manufacturer, so you're not left paying for a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was referred to this place by another store. The Eastern Avenue location staff Carlos took my laptop in for a diagnosis pertaining to the BIOS issue. Carlos said ETA would be 24 hours and most likely by the end of that same day. I waited until the very next day afternoon and didnāt get a call or text, so I decided to follow up. On the phone, another staff told me that there was nothing wrong with the laptop with OS running again normal now and that I could come and pick the laptop up. I asked to have the laptop opened up to see if there was anything I need to do to prevent the same issue from happening again. This very same person told me that I would get a call in an hour. That never happened, so I went ahead to the store. Finally I was told the laptop was at Patrick Ln store now. I said no problem and more than happy to drive by the store. I met another stuff named Chris. Weirdly enough Chris asked me about my earlier conversation with the other staff at Eastern location. I told Chris that I was given the direction to come here and was informed that the laptop was ready for pickup. Chris went back to grab my laptop and came back said I had to pay to have the laptop released since they fixed it. I asked whatās the fix. Chris said that they just tried a few ways to boot the laptop and it worked somehow but didnāt know what the root cause was. Chris called the owner Mark, and we agreed to $40 customary charge. I also had Chris check a noise inside the laptop. The guy Chris used unbelievable brute force trying to open up the hinge cover but failed, which left damages to the cover. This is the primary reason I decided to write this review....
