Short: visiting Hermann? You can't skip Doxieslush. Three words: craveable, fast, fresh. You'll consider coming back even if you're visiting from hours away.
Long: If you're anything like me, when you visit somewhere new, you want to try the top recommendations for the area. My wife and I stayed at a BNB for my birthday and tried many of the local staples. We enjoyed the variety of cultures represented in Hermann. Many of them do classic German dishes superbly and there's also killer Cajun food to be found. Doxieslush is what I would consider a truly new American restaurant. The classics here are American classics like smash burgers, boneless wings, bisque and baked beans. Where the new comes in is chef Nicholas Renfroe's inspired flavor combinations. Buffalo wings? No, garlic cotija wings. A burger with taco sauce? No, a thin black bean smashburger with a crisp tostada in the middle and house made taco sauce. None of the flavors were what I expected, they were far better, because I couldn't have imagined something from someone else's mind. These original flavors are worth a trip on their own. I haven't even mentioned the namesake slushies, that vibrantly greet you after coming through the front door standing out brightly against the back wall. It feels exciting to dive in, something you can do with all ages as all slushies can be made non-alcoholic. Every member of the staff I saw was busting their ass with a drive that shows they knew how premium their product is.
Huge shout out to Troy, the star of the show. Troy casually handled every order with the care and expertise I typically get from owners. A slam dunk to have on front of house and he's totally backed up by a homerun back of house.
I'd come back to Hermann and only go here. It's only an hour and a half away for me. How far are you...
Read moreOn these sweltering hot days there is no better place to cool down than Doxie Slush! The frozen cocktails beat the heat with a great range of flavors. If you want to try the most flavors, order the flight, three 7oz pours for $16.00. My 1st flight basil key lime gimlet, bruleed bbc, & black current cosmopolitan. Basil key lime, & black current cosmo are light and perfect for hot days of summer. Bruleed bbc is your tropical coconut banana island breeze. Wednesday is 1/2 price boneless wing night. With each frozen cocktail order you get 1/2 price wings. There is a great choice range here also. We settled on garlic cotija, kona bbq, & pineapple teriyaki, all light and perfect for scorching days. We also ordered the braised beef nachos another good choice for hot days. We took our friend here to celebrate his birthday, and I had been wanting to try Doxie Slush for quite awhile. Now my husband, and our friend are hard core beer drinking country boys. After walking along the river, we went back for more slushies, and sampling, to cool down with 2 more flights. Gotta try more flavors! This time I went for strawberry hibiscus frose, and chile mango margarita. Even these hard core country boys interest got peaked by the slushies, so they each sampled 2. They loved them! So the country boys got into the west coast vibe! The food and slushies are delicious, we'll all be back for more. The country boy even ordered another pineapple teriyaki wing to go for lunch the next day. Joel and staff gave great service. So if you're sweating the heat, duck in here for cool eats, and drinks! You...
Read moreOh my good gracious!!! A detour to miss Saint Louis traffic paid off tonight when we decided to see this little Missouri treasure of a town and got hungry. The Doxie Slush in Herman, MO is … oh goodness I don’t have enough words. I ordered the nachos and boneless chicken wings with peanut butter sauce and my favorite man had the grilled cheese with Kona bbq on jalapeño cornbread with cup of tomato soup. First the soup was creamy and fully of flavor, next the grilled cheese was a grilled cheese lovers dream with havarti cheese and the perfect amount of spicy with soothing silky beef and cheese. Moving on to the chicken wings- I am not asking how these things were gluten free, because they were tender and fried with some heavenly batter but then add that peanut butter sauce- wow- that made me want to jump up and slap my momma. Let’s move to the nachos- ya-all! For REAL - not only was the queso fresh and spiced like a Midwesterner’s idea of a perfect queso with- again that silk Kona bbq beef… but oh my let me tell you those chips were like stepping into my mom’s kitchen on a Sunday afternoon with freshly cut white corn tortilla strips fried to perfection. Oh- I kinda wanted to stay! Wait! We cannot forget to mention the slushes! Try a flight- cuz Heaven knows trying to decide will cause a headache. Stop in- you won’t be...
