It was just okay. We won’t be staying there again. No one was there to check us in, but our room key was left on the counter so we could get into our room. The issue was that the key was not in a lockbox and the door to the lobby was open, so anyone could have walked in the front door, grabbed our key, and entered our room as no one was at the front desk.
The sheets were kind of scratchy and my cheeks literally hurt the first morning after staying there because the pillow cases were so rough.
The biggest issue was the noise. The walls are paper thin. Seriously. They are SO THIN. In the lobby walking in for the first time I could hear people talking at a normal volume through the walls. Additionally, we were in room #7 and I heard every time someone went up and down the stairs which was about every 1-2 minutes in the morning. Every. Single. Time. It was so frustrating and not relaxing at all which sucks because the entire reason we booked this trip was to destress. No wonder they have a policy that necessitates quietness after 10 PM.
Also, there was no body wash in our shower. It’s a hotel, so we obviously didn’t pack our own soap. Luckily there was actually someone at the front desk to give us some mini bottles which we used. It seems like something they should have checked, especially as they don’t clean rooms or restock if your stay is 2 nights or less.
I had to work late into the night for school, so I kept turning our light on, and then it would turn off for no reason at all. We even took the batteries out of the remote and it kept doing it. Our remote for our fan and our light were linked to another room, which resulted in us, the owner, and other guests all congregating in the hallway to try to fix it around 10 PM. We weren’t successful so I ended up sleeping without a fan. I’m someone who usually sleeps with the fan on, but the other guests wanted theirs on too. We couldn’t do it at the same time which was frustrating. The owner did kindly offer to bring us a box fan, but that that point we really just wanted to decompress.
The owner also didn’t wear a mask when we tried to resolve the light issue which I found pretty surprising. She also didn’t wear one the next day when she accidentally knocked on our door instead of the other room’s door. I assume she would have had ample time to grab one. I did both times. Coming from the city, maybe people from small towns don’t care about the pandemic, but it was quite shocking nonetheless. The whole town kind of did this though so she wasn’t alone in that regard. She also mentioned someone else had issues with the remote previously which begs the question: Why didn’t they look into the problem then?
The decor is nice, but overall it’s just a motel that’s been gussied up a bit. I definitely wouldn’t call it a boutique hotel. I understand that they’re a small business, but I was overall disappointed with our stay. If you are looking for a relaxing stay in Hermann, don’t stay here. There are far better options that are also reasonably priced. My husband and I stayed at the Wharf Street Inn a few years back and had a lovely experience. It is more expensive, but I wish we had stayed there again. At least I could get decent sleep without hearing people through the walls and sleep on...
Read moreThis place was perfect for us!!! Everything was beautiful, Danielle at the front desk is an absolute Gem, and you can just tell that the owners and staff genuinely care, while still trying to maintain a healthy work life balance, as well as keeping prices reasonable which I 100% support! So that means that they don't have staff manning the front desk 24/7, but quite frankly for a small family owned hotel with 11 rooms that is full of grown adults, I can't imagine why you would need that. They make themselves very available/approachable via text messaging however if you do need anything. So if you are used to soulless big city hotels with daily maid service, and 24/7 concierge help, this isn't it but I would maintain personally that it's much, much better.
We splurge for the higher price room so we could have a balcony and it was so worth it! We were in room number 10 and it was an absolute dream. On Friday and Saturday night the hotel next door had live music, and just sitting outside on the balcony listening to that, and the cicadas, watching the sky change, while enjoying the flame from the table-top torch lamp they provided was probably my favorite part of our whole weekend. FYI if you have any mobility challenges, to get the upstairs balcony rooms you do need to go up a whole flight of stairs. There are rooms on the main level that you can get to from the parking lot with just a few steps.
Our rooms were beautiful, the lobby was beautiful. Everything is in really great taste. For coffee drinkers, there are the small keurigs in each room, and then there's the large Keurig in the lobby. They also have a regular drip coffee maker that they make early every morning. The room also has a mini fridge, microwave, hair dryer, earplugs, wine opener, etc. They also provide fantastic body wash shampoo and conditioner as...
Read moreWe didn’t expect this place to exceed the Hyatt in key areas that are important to us. The bathroom, while dated, was spotless. Handles and fixtures were so clean they looked brand new and functioned flawlessly. The thought put into furnishing the room simply is apparent. It has an “out west,” old time feel which is very appropriate given the name. Vin for tribute to the location in wine country? At one time the Hermann area was the third largest wine producer in the country. Vin”chester” perhaps gives a hat tip towards the history of the building being a gun shop many decades ago. Thankfully the room is equipped with basic modern comforts such as A/C and wifi (when you find the reception sweet spots). If you are accustomed to the luxury of the Hyatt, this may not be the place for you. We heard an occasional door close, but noise from the neighboring guests was nonexistent. The A/C does have a white noise effect one may not be used to. Artwork on the walls was sparse but how could you compete with the street view out the window that sets the stage? Chairs out front of the building in the shade were appreciated while waiting for others to join up. Staff were friendly and accommodating. We were amazed that they made themselves available by text and responded promptly to inquiries. Yes, they even knew where we could buy the grandkids a balloon. Don’t assume the place is perfect, it does have quirks. It all lends itself to a memorable experience we’ll be happy to repeat next time we are...
