I highly recommend Hawaiian Style Rentals & Sales. Every staff member was polite and eager to help. The service and equipment were absolutely outstanding.
Hawaiians are considerate drivers, and not a single person cut us off or honked at us on our trip. Of course, we pulled over when more than two cars stacked up behind us, but the speed limit on the East Oahu Circle was 25-45, so the sport model moped was absolutely safe.
That being said...y'all, I did not do my typical due diligence. Since I was on vacation during COVID, and had completed the hours worth of Hawai'i Safe travels tech support for my octogenarian in-laws and my tech-dependent husband, I was SO... weary of detailed travel planning. Thus... I did not research the ride, and did not pack rain gear for the rain forest leg of the East Oahu Circle. My bad, but now you know... the rest of the story.
Honey Chile... on the East/Northeast side of the loop, I thought I was gonna die. Rain was pelting, wind was blowing, the temperature dropped ten degrees, and I was wearing shorts and a sleeveless t-shirt. I am hoarse as I write this, because I spent that entire ride through the rainforest singing praises & hymns & Psalm 3:16 (which I put to music on the fly) at the top of my lungs. Jay says it was fifteen minutes, but I know it was two hours.
But the good news is that the southeastern leg of the loop was amazing. Girls, think of childbirth. Horrible, painful, but you only remember the beauty. THAT was the southeastern coastal leg before the mountains.
Do this. Come prepared, and you will never regret...
Read moreHawaiian Style Rentals was awesome! I rented a fitness bike from them twice during my vacation to Oahu. I had debated on flying with my bike, but didn't want the hassle. I found Hawaiian Style Rentals on Google and gave them a call to ask them if I would be allowed to swap out the pedals so I could wear my cycling shoes and clip in. The answer was yes, as long as I brought tools and was self sufficient.
Both days that I rented a fitness bike, I was helped by DJ and he was great! On the second day I rented a bike, I was looking over the chain and cassettes (cause I do that) and I commented that someone must have ridden the bike onto the beach because there was a lot of sand in the chain, and DJ immediately was like, "I got you!" and he took the bike to the back of the shop and did a quick clean and lube of the chain to make sure it would work smoothly on my ride. THANKS DJ!!!
I averaged 25 miles each day I rented from Hawaiian Style Rentals. The saddle was comfortable. The gears shifted smoothly. I could tell that they maintain their bikes really well. There was one water bottle holder, however the bike had a huge gear bag on the handle bars which easily fit my second bike bottle (and could have fit a third and a phone and snacks). And the rear rack easily accommodated my hiking back pack (although I did bring my own bungees to strap it on; I never asked if they could provide bungees).
Five stars...
Read moreWhile vacationing in Honolulu, I wanted to rent a moped because one, it’s an island and two, finding parking comes at a premium. I did my research and found Hawaiian Style Rentals which was close to my hotel.
When I arrived, I was quickly greeted by an associate and they explained the whole process, explained the reasons why I needed a motorcycle license for certain models and why a two seater couldn’t really seat two unless I had a motorcycle license. He didn’t try to pressure me or give me more than necessary which I appreciated.
Then it’s on to watch a training video and then do a lap around the block to make sure everything was in good working condition. The entire process was smooth, easy to understand and straightforward. They offer rental coverage for an additional $25, which I took because it covered theft, damage, loss of use and I could return the moped back after hours which helped.
The moped was very quick and rode very well but there were a couple of time that it took a while to start. I won’t knock off stars for that because it could’ve been operator error. Once I was done with the moped, I dropped it off after hours, locked it up and left the keys in the drop box. They sent my receipt that morning once they opened shop.
Renting the moped was a great idea, because I was able to take in the scenery or not worry about parking. Overall, I had a great experience and...
