Chaotic mess. Absolutely worst cruise pier I've seen. Took 2 hours to get an uber debarking cruise. Many nearly got run over including me. Kids were crying (yes, actually), adults all end up yelling. Almost all passengers were yelling at security guard who made it the most chaotic mess. We had to organize ourselves. I saw a guard tell a black family one thing and other anglo families another thing in a span of 2 minutes. A Chinese family got sent to the end of the dock for no reason, causing them to miss their uber. If you told me this was their first time having a cruise ship I'd believe you. But they've done this for 20 years and somehow it's the worst way possible.
If you have a flight take a bus. There is simply no other way to leave before at least an hour. Busses left quickly while us rideshares stayed in the hell.
Here's a couple of tips for people leaving the cruise ship: don't trust what the security tells you. They will yell different instructions at you. Use your best judgment. Stay out of the streets. Try to make it to the end of the lane. Don't stay quiet, fight for your safety.
Taxi stands: exit the warehouse and take a right. Do NOT cross the street no matter what the guards yell and whistle at you. They told me there were no taxis. It's a lie. Take a right at the door. Keep walking. The pavement will take a curve. The taxis are in hiding at the end of the warehouse. Guards don't allow them in and try to turn them away but some are smart enough to ignore.
Uber/rideshares: cross the road and head down the canopy. There will be a large crowd of people blocking your view. Please be aware the street starts at the lane right against the cement blocks. Yes, there is no picking up / loading lane like other piers or airports. This is incredibly dangerous!! Most cars drive right up against the blocks. This is why a drunk uber driver lady nearly ran a group of us over. Stay behind the cement blocks. Stop people from straying out before they get hurt. Watch for run away kids. Cars will nosedive right at you. You are on your own but working together helps all.
Count at what number pillar/column you are and text it to your uber driver. There are no numbers on the pillars (see why port sucks). But count them and text it over. It will help tremendously. If you try to get into car on middle lanes you better hurry or you'll get run over or yelled at by security guard. Try to get everyone down the dock as people tend to stop and bottlenose at the beginning of the lane. Yell and urge people to move down. Many ubers cancel as it's a 1 hour waiting period just to get inside the dock. Guards go quiet about an hour in so all traffic is stopped while people at the first part of the lane get into their rides. Keep trying or cross street back to warehouse side for taxis in hiding. You will get through this. Safety first.
Bus departures: if you cross the street you will see buses waiting on the farther lane. Not the easy to access lane, no, the port people work against you and common sense. The same canopy as all the rideshares. You must push, beg, yell your way in betwen the mess of thousands of people huddled together and get to the bus. Go around the crowd (it seems impossible) and yell that you're going for the bus. People will be frantic but it'll help you through the mess. This is the best option if you have a flight. There is no other way. The busses do leave on time and have priority for entering.
I've been to so many concerts, cruises, and airports but have never seen such a dangerous situation. I was literally almost run over and had to pull a lady back before she was too. Both times the crowd was pushing us into the street and the cars were just inches away from the cement barrier. It was so dangerous especially for kids.
Remember, your life is more important than a ride or making it 10 min earlier to a hotel. Don't rush. Stay safe. Use your best judgment. I won't be doing this cruise again because this port was actual hell. It's not worth my safety.
Just found out people died...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMiserable place. Inside of the terminal is all carpet which means peopleās luggage will drag and catch on it. The security as usual are extremely rude- on the way out they had labeled shuttle bus / rental shuttles to the left. However this is incorrect and they are in fact on the RIGHT side as you exit the port from NCL ships. I was on the left and asked the security where it was and he pointed to the right, I got confused and said āoh but the sign says to the right?ā And he said āitās WRONG!ā So I asked him āwhy hasnāt it been changed, itās very confusing?ā And his response āgo change it yourself!ā I told him āgo change it yourself! YOU work here not meā. Someone else apologized and said itās been incorrectly labeled for months.
The audacity
Thereās a lot of international visitors to the island and on the ship. Imagine how confusing it is. Additionally you have to book your shuttle ahead of time on the ship or else youāll have to Uber/Lyft. Make sure you compare...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreRoyal Princess docked at Pier 2 on Feb 20th for two days. A short walk from ship to Ala Moana Blvd and bus or trolley routes. The Ala Moana Shopping Center was less than a mile away as well as a park along the water across from it.
Was easily able to walk (to stretch our legs) and make our way to the location to purchase trolley tickets for one day on one route or for all routes on multiple days. I split from my sister to head for the zoo while she went for the Botanical Garden and Museum opportunities.
Purchased a charger cord on my way back to the ship so I could charge my phone using the chargers I brought.
I recommend checking details about locations on the trolley routes. My sister found one thing that was not opened on Wednesday, another not available until March (two weeks away) and another not opening until May!
Enjoyed walking around, the pleasant weather, and viewing the...
