Escape rooms. What pops into mind is probably a basic room with a simple theme, a buttload of scavenging, and some puzzles and locks that need to be solved within the hour. Boy, does this place take it to the next level !
Chambers escape games is what’s known as a 3rd generation escape room, and probably just like you, I had no idea what that meant. Lemme enlighten you guys a bit....
Realistic theming and designs with the lights, sounds, and special effects literally made me feel like I was in the scene of an Indiana Jones movie. There was ALOT of cool and fancy technology in the game and most of their puzzles were automated. At other escape rooms, once all the clues and puzzles were unlocked, that was the end of things. At chambers, they had actual events that took place during the game which kinda made me feel like I was in a Lara Croft video game. It was an absolute blast seeing the story unfold as we progressed through the Temple, and although we didn’t need to scavenge like the other escape rooms, we did spent a good amount of time problem solving each clue.
Overall, the live action escape room at Chambers was a mind-blowing experience you really don’t want to miss. With up to 8 players, it was definitely a fun and eventful night out with friends.
Now for the VR side...... I’ll admit, I was a little hesitant to try it as certain VR’s in the past were known to disorient me. I was delightfully surprised at how advanced the technology they used there was, and how comfortable and seamless the VR experience was.
With a maximum of 5 people, we were all equipped with an HTC Vive VR headset (which I’ve only seen on YouTube or twitch), with this awesome wireless backpack allowing us to play completely untethered (not attached to any console or anything). With their high-tech motion sensor cameras, I honestly forgot that I was in a virtual world. (No lag or delay at all with our movements.) At one point, I actually tried to lean against and stand on something that wasn’t actually there ! (LOL) We loved it soo much we actually tried all 3 VR games in ONE DAY !
They have Space Station Tiberia (outer space themed), Depths of Osiris (underwater themed), and my personal favorite was Dragon Tower (medieval themed). Each game brought its own set of challenges, and being avid gamers, we tried it on hardcore mode. It was sooo exhilarating, I was left with a surge of adrenaline and wanting more. The staff were incredibly friendly and caring, making it feel like they were a part of our squad rather than a game operator. Can’t wait until they release new games so I can come back !
Overall, I will definitely be recommending this place to friends and family. If you’re on Oahu and want to try something different, you really don’t want to miss this. 3rd generation escape room, high tech VR games, what’s there to...
Read moreTwo of us did the Dragon Tower VR escape adventure. I'm an escape room AND VR enthusiast, so combing the two sounds like a no-brainer. Unlike a traditional escape room, the VR room uses a HTC Vive headset + a VR backpack to allow for untethered full body tracking, in a room that's roughly 20×20 feet. Being able to play VR with a partner makes for a unique experience, since most at home VR experiences only support tracking a single user. The game itself is polished with good graphics, but I have to say tracking and control do run into issues that affect the game experience at times. Our game master Zack (I hope I remembered your name correctly) was excellent, and the co-owner Ron is clearly passionate about his business, who went above and beyond to make sure we had a pleasant time. We'd love to come back and try the live escape room someday, and I'll keep an eye out for how VR escape games progress in the future. Good times!
Update: We (2 of us) decided to come back last minute to try out the live room The Temple, after having a blast with the VR room Dragon Tower. I emailed them at 7am asking for last minute, same day accommodation, and the co-owner Ron replied within 15 minutes, and satisfied all of our needs (including allowing us to play the room with only two people despite it being designed for 3+, for good reasons). Top-notch customer obsession once again. The room itself is considered a 3rd generation escape room. Despite having played dozens of rooms all across the US, this is my first time hearing the term used. Having played it now, I fully embrace the use of the term, as the immersion, theme, technology, props, and sounds are entirely on a different level from the run of the mill mom and pop rooms you typically find. We tried three different escape room venues on this trip to Oahu, and The Chamber is easily the best experience out of the three, bar none. In fact, it's one of the best rooms I've done ever (only other one with comparable quality is The Storykeeper from Locurio in Seattle). Our GM Keith stayed in the room with us, but to aid with immersion, he mostly stayed out of the way and only offered minor nudges along the way. There's only one puzzle where perhaps Keith over-extended his help, but in hindsight it's probably an innocent miscommunication. I love horror films and don't get skittish easily, but there were a few moments during this room that I genuinely freaked out (in a wow-this-is-awesome kind of way). Experiences that can do this to me are always going to have a special place in my heart, and why escape rooms can be awesome in general. Thanks to Chambers for wrapping up our amazing adventure with Oahu, we'll be back and looking forward to more fun adventures...
Read moreI was looking for an activity for my daughter's 17th birthday. Been checking out all the different rooms out there to escape from. It would be most of our first time going (except 1 person) in the group. So we really didn't know what to expect. I contacted them via website, on their contact us page. Ron replied to me very quick and answered all my questions! He made it really easy for me to choose them! The cost was perfect for our group of 16.
We got there on a Saturday night. The street parking situation was a little tight, as they had the Salt Night Market going on, and a lot of the parking was taken. I contacted Ron to inquire about parking being scarce and he said the building had 3 stalls that they could utilize so I was happy about that! My guests all got in and we were ready. Got in about 30 mins early, just to make sure on parking and signing the waivers on the tablet.
We did the Temple Room, the interactive escape room. It's 8 to a group, so we split into adults vs kids. The first group went in at 8pm & 2nd group at 9:30. Because we were going to be there for a good 2.5 hours, we had Domino's deliver to us and we brought a cooler with drinks. We also brought a cake for the birthday cake. All this to munch on while each group waited on each other. Ron was so accommodating. I asked if we would be able to do this and he advised that he had a pretty big waiting area. You may want to bring a small little table, if you want something sturdy. The room is pretty big!
The Temple Room was awesome! I can't give away anything, but the adults & kids were able to do it. Hints are given, if you ask. It was sooo much fun!
While we were cleaning up, Ron offered to let the birthday girl and 3 other friends sample the VR game! It was hilarious!!! We could NOT stop laughing, as we watched them go through the game. Thank you Ron, for doing that! The rest of my group will now have to come back for it. We appreciate all that the staff did to make this such a memorable party for my daughter. We will never forget it.
Can't wait for the next time we come! Thanks again Chambers...
