I went to see a live orchestra performance of Star Wars: A New Hope with my mom and we had orchestra seats near the middle. The ensemble played by the Houston Orchestra was sublime, to the point I had to remind myself to check the actual performers so often as I would get lost in just the beautiful sound scape they provided for us. To see them have the same passion and love for their craft as provided by the expierence truly was mezzmerizing! If you ever see that a movie you love with a score to boot needs to be seen here as this expierence will be treasured for a life time, and I'm not even that into Star Wars!!! The only reason it didn't get a 5/5 as even with an uber to not worry about parking was still difficult to find a decent dropoff/pickup point that won't have you waiting outside for a decent time and my 3 ounce single espresso martini was about 8 dollars more than I would have liked so maybe keep that In mind but don't let that keep you from seeing something that will truly be...
Read moreThe first half of the Wicked performance was outstanding but we had to leave at the intermission. The reason for leaving was because of the extremely small uncomfortable seats. If you're a 130~150-pound person then you'll have no problem fitting tightly into the seats but if you're a 6'2" 250-pound man like myself then you'll be miserable. It does not warn you about the extremely small seats when purchasing a single ticket for $275.00. I'm not sure about lower-level seating but anything from 2nd level up is only good for children or a small person. I do know lower-level seats start around $750.00 and although it's a great performance I can't see spending that much money on a single performance.
So just a warning about seating that is not disclosed when purchasing tickets at The Hobby Center for the Performing...
Read moreA Houston landmark - everyone should get out and see a show. The staff and volunteers are all great. Don't worry if you don't have fancy clothes, you will see jeans and sneakers there right alongside fancy formals. $15 for garage parking or $25 for valet. In my opinion, the best seats are in the gallery. I'm short and the rows are raised so that there is never a head in front of me. It's farther back but I have an unobstructed view of the whole show. If theater is your thing and you plan to go often, become a subscriber - you...
