Ms. Latanya – The Heart and Soul of Extended Stay Braeswood Med Center
In all my years of traveling due to my husband’s blue-collar construction work, I have stayed in countless hotels. But never have I encountered someone as remarkable as Ms. Latanya at Extended Stay Braeswood Med Center. She has not just redefined hospitality—she has set an entirely new standard for what it means to truly care for guests.
From the moment we walked through the doors nearly two months ago, Ms. Latanya treated us like more than guests. She treated us like family. My husband works long hours, leaving me, my baby, and our service animal here during the day. Being in a new city and adjusting to life away from home could have been overwhelming, but Ms. Latanya has turned what could have been a stressful experience into a genuinely comforting one.
She has an incredible ability to make people feel seen and valued. Every single interaction with her is filled with kindness and sincerity. It’s the little things that stand out—how she remembers names, asks about our day, and takes the time to check in with us just to make sure we’re doing okay. It’s not just her job to help; it’s her mission to make everyone feel cared for.
There is a warmth about her that is truly rare. She goes above and beyond for every single guest, whether it’s answering questions, helping with a concern, or simply offering a smile and a kind word when you need it most. She doesn’t just see guests as a number or a room key—she sees them as people with stories, struggles, and lives, and she treats each person with a level of care and respect that is absolutely unmatched.
For me, as a mom balancing life with a baby and a service animal while my husband is away at work, her thoughtfulness has been a lifeline. She’s the type of person who notices when you’re having a tough day and goes out of her way to brighten it. She takes time to ask how my baby is doing, she remembers details about our life, and she makes me feel less alone in a situation that could have easily felt isolating.
Her compassion extends to everyone who walks through the doors. I’ve watched her greet other guests with the same warmth and dedication she shows us. She has a gift for making people feel comfortable, whether they’re here for a short stay or an extended one like us. She is patient, understanding, and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that everyone feels at home.
What truly sets Ms. Latanya apart is her consistency. She is always smiling, always kind, and always professional, no matter how busy or stressful her day might be. I’ve seen her handle difficult situations with grace and care, always finding a way to resolve issues while keeping the guests’ comfort as her top priority. It’s clear that she takes immense pride in her work, and it shows in everything she does.
For those who are considering staying at this hotel—whether you’re an out-of-town worker, a traveling family, or a single mom trying to navigate life on the road—know that you will not just find a place to stay here. You will find a place where you are cared for, thanks to Ms. Latanya. She is the reason this hotel feels less like a hotel and more like a home.
Latanya, if you’re reading this, I hope you know just how much of an impact you’ve had on me, my family, and everyone else who has the privilege of staying here. You are a light in this world—a rare gem who has the power to make people feel valued, supported, and loved. Your kindness and dedication have not gone unnoticed, and I will forever be grateful for the care you have shown me and my family.
Thank you, Ms. Latanya, for being you. You are the reason I will recommend this hotel to everyone I know who is traveling to Houston. You have turned what could have been a challenging time in our lives into something so much brighter, and I hope you realize how truly special you are. You are not just the best front desk associate I’ve ever met—you are one of the best people...
Read moreFirst the good: Hmmm, we decided to stay here due to it's proximity to MD Anderson Cancer Center... and it is perfectly located for that... a short walk to the hospital. Also, it is pet friendly, and although we have a service dog that can stay anywhere, we usually elect to stay in pet friendly hotels to support them.
Now, the not-so-great: The price is low-ish, and so is the quality of hotel. Hotel exterior - landscaping lacks general care. The grass is mowed, but that's about all. planter beds lack mulch, dirt overflows the borders, lots of bare spots under the trees, a few unexpected holes, broken wlakways. Also, although it's a "pet-friendly" hotel, and there is a sign to pick up your pet's poop... there are no doggy bags to be found (I know I should have my own, but it costs almost nothing to put up a box and fill it with pet poop bags.
Now the interior: the hallways smell of smoke and something else... mold or mildew or sweat???. The elevator is broken and I have trouble walking up the stairs duy to my illness. There are several exit doors and they are frequently left open, weged open with a rock or the self closing mechanism doesn't work... a security issue, and this isn't the safest neighborhood.
The room - First the good: spacious, with vinyl plank flooring - great for pets. The bed is comfortable, there is plenty of hot water, an adequate kitchenette, 2 flat screen TVs, full sized refrigerator, and the A/C works. Now the not-so-good: The room needs maintenance - missing decorations, wall paper torn, poorly patched hole in the shower wall. cracks in the ceiling, and whoever has a room above us either has a pet elephant or have an MMA match heppening every evening... There was no kitchen ware at all - not a plate, spoon of fork, pot, pan or glass. We asked for these and were given items that look like they came from Goodwill (nothing against the folks at Goodwill!). The A/C units seem to have either full on or off, so the rooms were either very cold or very hot, and they are LOUD.
Breakfast - nothing good to say about this... a sad excuse for breakfast. Packets of instant oatmeal, a bagged muffin and an over sweetened "granola-type bar". Oh yes, regular coffee and hot water. I would love at least decaf, or better yet, dare I suggest, a coffee maker in the room??? On our way to Houston, we had just stayed at a Hampton Inn, for about the same price, and thier breakfast was simple but way more substantial, self serve with eggs, real oats, yoghurt, bananas/apples, bagels, etc.
The staff - Nice, doing their job, some getting trained, somewhat helpful. (Willie was nice and a hard worker!) Clearly understaffed all around. And this seems to be the norm for this area as I read the reviews of many other hotels nearby.
Overall, we are fine with the hotel for now. Given this is Houston, it's probably a reasonable value for money... but I'll spend more next time and stay elsewhere. The owner could make this place a gold mine given its prime location... so I'm not sure why they are letting it go... but that's...
Read moreI made the mistake of thinking that since this hotel is in the medical district it would be nice. My thought was families stay there while their loved ones are getting treatment. Nothing could be further from the truth.
I was put in a handicap room which I didn't book. That room had no phone or hair dryer so I asked to be moved. The 2nd room was a double and sadly was worst than the first.
The hallways smell like skunk weed from a rock concert, which was fitting as the hallway looked like it was from the 60's. Everything is way outdated. In the different room, one of the double beds was broken, the curtains were falling off, the outlets by the sink didn't work, the bathtub had been painted and was peeling, I wasn't told at check-in that you have to pull a ring down that's attached to the faucet to turn the shower on. I had to was my hair on my knees bending over the tub as there was no way I was sitting in that tub. Once I figured the shower out, the shower curtain didn't have a liner, just a flimsy shower curtain so water went everywhere. This clearly had happened before because the faux wood flooring was buckling. Both AC units were insanely loud, didn't stay on but would turn off and switch to heat. One had a used Q-Tip and food particles, when I brought all these issues to the gal at the front desks attention she seemed unphased, but was kind enough to tell me the trick to the AC units it to drop the temperature as low as possible and to turn to low and it will stay on. I might as well have slept on the runway at the airport as the sound of both units running simultaneously was equivalent to a jet engine.
The majority of the furniture was ripped, the mirror had major streaks, the carpet had stains everywhere so I never took my slippers off. I went to grab a drink from the vending machine but it was out of order. At midnight on the 2nd night, it sounded like someone was power washing the parking lot, I couldn't figure where the sound was coming from from my window, so I went downstairs to investigate. Went through the door to the pool area and the sound was coming from the other side of the fence. Went back inside where I discovered the door was unlocked, didn't have to swipe my key to get back in. Since it was evident ANYONE could access the hotel, I moved a chair under the handle of my room door for security. I chose this hotel because it was close to the conference location at NRG Park. I got maybe 2 hours of sleep each night thanks to the AC units.
I was here for business and will NEVER stay at an Extended Stay again, this location has ruined the brand. My heart goes out to the folks that are staying there because they're either getting medical treatment nearby or their loved one is. Shame on you for providing a substandard, nasty hotel. I've renamed this The...
