River Oaks Thai Massage — Attraction in Houston

So I used to love this place then I had the craziest massage experience of my entire life…. I came to get a massage on new year’s day to celebrate the new year and had the most unprofessional massage of my life.

The masseuse came in and she was friendly and we greeted each other and she was getting started and then the manager opened to door to my room (I’m literally exposed but cool) and asked the masseuse a question. Then, I had my hair in two little buns to keep it off my neck and the masseuse touched one of my buns and started laughing and said she thought there would be more hair and she has never seen that hair style before? So odd….

Then the masseuse took a personal phone call mid massage and had it on speaker and it was her friend calling to wish her a happy new year….

THEN the masseuse started to comment on some of my tattoos asking what animals they were and started laughing at some of them???

It was honestly so crazy and unprofessional that I won’t be returning here. I came to get a massage not to be made self conscious about my appearance and interrupted for a service that I was paying money for.

And as a side note - when I booked the appointment I requested a female masseuse. When I got to the place, she asked if I would be ok with a male and I said no I prefer a female. And then she got upset and said that the men were just as qualified as the women and the women were being overworked and the men weren’t busy enough. I understand that male masseuses probably don’t get as much work, but as a note to the staff - when a woman says she is uncomfortable with a male masseuse there is probably a reason whether that be societal or personal experience and that should be respected upon the...

This place is a little hidden gem. It's easy to miss on the outside but the inside is so well decorated and has constantly soothing music playing. The place is super clean, and the bathroom has nice little touches like mouthwash, a shower (I didn't need it), and even hair brushes. I got a Thai combo massage with Harry and lemme tell you I feel like a renewed person. The Thai part was stellar with nice pressure, standing on my legs and back, and the swedish portion was so soothing with oils and hot stones/towels. All my tension is gone! If you haven't ever had a Thai massage before, be sure to ask for lighter pressure than your usual because it is no joke! I've had it a few times before so I asked for strong, but they are not joking around when they mean strong lol. The room is private and quiet, and there's even a mirror in the room so you can fix your hair or outfit after an hour of intense relaxation.

The only thing is parking is a little confusing - there is a small driveway and no lot so if you park in the driveway just let the receptionist know and leave your keys with her so you don't have to wait from being parked in after your massage is completed like me. But that was completely fine since they offer you a cup of hot tea, water, and a little chocolate after your massage anyway. Apparently you can park on any of the surrounding streets so I'll be sure to do that next...

I really wanted this to be a good experience, but in all honesty, it was a solid 6/10. A few things that contributed to my experience, the instrumental Christmas music playing was too repetitive and loud, the constant chitchat from 2 girls that were in the back room just talking and laughing out loud throughout my massage, the continuous walking back and forth through the hallway that made cracking noises on the floor. In addition, I could not feel the connection with the masseuse, I got the Thai combination massage, and sucking cups. It felt like we both spoke two body languages cause I felt so disconnected, almost like feeling like this was one of his first time giving a massage. He also walked on my back and the noise from the bars he was holding onto were making very loud and distracting noises, and I also could hear the noise from street. Overall, I wasn’t really pleased with my whole experience. One thing I was not really happy about is how insisting was the lady at the front desk asking for a Google review right there and then. She kept pushing me to write the review there. Well, I wasn’t going to since I wanted to take my time in writing an accurate review and not one that felt like I was being cornered and put in on the spot.
