My husband and I stayed here while I was having tests at the Mays clinic on the MDAnderson campus. We stayed the night before, as my tests were very early. We got permission to check out at 1:00pm instead of 12:00 so we could get a meal and a nap after my tests and before heading to League City for another appointment in the afternoon. |The hotel was highly recommended to me for the convenience and the comfort. And it met all that and beyond. After dealing with the Houston traffic, it was nice to just Valet our vehicle ($20 a day). We found our King bed room #641 ($146) to be very clean, spacious and comfortable. There was a nice sitting area with a small couch, chair and table. There was also a desk and a table with drawers where the TV was. The bed was very comfortable with plenty of covers and end tables and lamps. The AC worked great. My favorite was the large bathroom with the big shower. That night I enjoyed an excellent hot shower! There was a coffee station by the bathroom but we did not make coffee the next morning because of my tests. But it looked like everything needed was there.|The evening that we arrived, we enjoyed a delicious buffet in the Apicius Restaurant. Everything was delicious! It was so enjoyable that we ate the breakfast buffet there the next morning after my tests. It's not cheap, but it's really good food.|My tests were at the Mays clinic and after we ate dinner we decided to walk the trail in the Skywalk. We discovered that the Mays building was further than I thought. When we walked that direction through another building, we discovered a shuttle stop in the Skywalk with a bench, so that's where we decided to go the next morning. The shuttle service starts at 6:00am, so we were there sitting on the bench waiting when it arrived. After my tests, we caught the shuttle back. We enjoyed our short ride back, chatting with the friendly driver.|After breakfast and a rest, we checked out at 12:45 and drove on to League City. Over all, it was a pleasant experience from check in to check out. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and we will definitely stay here again when needed. I think after the first visit, you can check in online with your...
Read moreAwful, the only good thing to be said is that it is close to MD Anderson. We asked to have an outlet fixed and we're still waiting.
There are so many code violations here I just can't wait to invite a fire marshal in. The lighting in the rooms is so bad you can barely find what you're looking for, (your own hand). Although the FTC just came down hard on Marriott (who runs this dump) they still jam the wifi so that you can't use your own devices to stream movies. Instead they gouge for their own paltry selection of movies with no channel selection worth mentioning . The decor and furniture is vintage 60's depressing (think billiard green w-t-w carpeting and purple couches. A miserly amount of crappy mismatched furniture which is falling apart. The kitchen if you can call it that, is even older. On the other hand, the 2 most egregious Houston tricks; wall to wall hospitals and no public transportation. This is the city to own a cab business in. Oh yes, and of course there is the, are you ready for this? 35% tax charge, all hotels charge unless you stay at least 30 days. Its enough to make a loan shark blush. But lets remember, folks these are Houston hotels that are servicing people & their care takers who are facing life threatening diseases. I heard one guest who has been coming to this place for 12 yrs. he was complaining, no one even hangs out in the large lobby lounge because they don't offer much TV there either, and it's just depressing. So if you like marble columns and floors, in the lobby, door men who won't even help you with packages or groceries, shuttle drivers who hate their jobs and people who can not communicate with you in english. Boy have you found a home. Don't count on getting your mail or packages, and be sure to stop by the needless markup gift shop. Houston has arguably some of the best Hospitals around, On the other hand, for a large city it is one of the most barren homely cities I've seen. You wonder what people do, well there is the Rodeo. In general Marriott is one of the worst hotels and they are...
Read morePer reading the previous reviews, I must say that within the last month I was there for 4 days while going through my My MD Anderson, and I know that beyond a shadow of a doubt and even beyound hotel Zaza ... The ROTARY house my being able to be directly connected to the skywalk for the 4 days I was there was the best place for me and they were even under mild construction. I was unable to get up and eat at all and was brought a perfect bowl of french onion soup, they have a lab down in the lobby, everyday I was provided with my next days Agenda and/or changes... also my husbnad was able to keep up his work by working from his computer while being with me every step up the way. And when It got to where I was in a state where my immune system was compromised and was also dizzy ...I was within 2 minutes promptly provided with a wheelchair that my husband was able to get help bringing me back to our room at Rotary house. I was able to also pleased that if my husband who never leaves my side wanted to take a 5 minute walk he knew I was safe and he could breath... I will forever go back for any stay included this upcoming week. I know I have seen reviews that said this is overpriced hotel etc but I assure you anyone that has not seen it and has anyone dealing with this would easily pay to stay $10 more dollars in a hotel CONNECTED to Md Anderson where there is a lab service for the patients in the lobby, a restaurant for their spouses or loved ones who are with them and to know that IF the patient/me has to be admitted that day... my husband still has the option to be 3 minutes from me and can take a shower and a nap ... I know this from 1 friend who is now has reached beyond her 5 yr survivor point she recommended this place to us, as well as a dear lifelong friend whos spouse was a renound physician who passed and both of these ladies I am grateful for telling me about this place THAT is why I am passing it forward .. you will not be let down at...
