This church condones bullying from its leaders. I say this having attended churches my whole life. I come from a respected family that has established relationships with various local Christian organizations. I graduated from a Methodist university, where I formed lasting connections with a handful of my professors (one of whom helped me land my first job out of school). I even briefly attended Mars Hill Church (that gained national attention for its toxic culture). As bad as things were at that church, my experience with St. Luke’s was far worse. And when I engage in discussions about toxic church leaders, I don’t bring up Mark Driscoll (who was the disgraced lead pastor of Mars Hill), but I instead mention Tom Pace as well as Eric Huffman.
I’ve truly loved most churches I’ve been affiliated with, as I’ve formed lasting relationships within each of these communities. Nonetheless, I consider St. Luke’s to be a rare and awful exception. I understand that negative reviews about churches (such as this one) are often frowned upon. Regardless, I believe it’s appropriate to be candid and transparent about topics such as this (especially with churches like St. Luke’s, where the toxicity seems to evade public...
Read moreI have attended St Lukes for over thirty years. It is the most loving, honest, kindest place I have ever been. The outreach programs within our city are beyond phenomenal. The youth programs including choir and choir tours, vbs, summer camps, united army, and the instruction for young people are wonderful. The support systems for Moms, Dads, families, divorced people, children, youth and singles are amazing. They truly put their money in line with their teaching. They value service equally with monetary donations. During hurricanes, they have turned the church gym into a shelter with members providing food for months. I was in the hospital for a week and the outreach, encouragement and visits meant the world to me. St Lukes United Methodist in Houston is the most intellectually honest place I...
Read moreThis church has informed me and my family we will not be able to attend an easter outdoor service that will be socially distanced unless we fully have our mouths and nose's covered throughout the entire service. My family and I refuse to be submissive to anyone except God. We choose not to live in fear or worry as the bible tells us this repeatedly. After reaching out to them and explaining our position our points of contention were ignored and they further explained that this policy would continue until everyone was vaccinated. It is ashame we are being turned away from a church on easter and that they would push fear from a virus instead of putting trust and faith...
