I'm so glad I made my bf turn around so I could try this place! Kolaches are my favorite food, but a good kolache is really hard to find these days! I normally don't like kolaches with real sausage in them...the hot dog type sausage has always been my preference for kolaches. But since I saw their sign saying they use Prasek's sausage in their kolaches, I decided to try them. They're AMAZING - perfect proportion of sausage/delicious REAL (I assume made from scratch) bread/high quality cheese. Even harder to find than great kolaches is a place that ALSO has great donuts...& they definitely have that covered here too!!! The long john was soooo good & fresh, & their old fashioned & filled donut holes were to die for! Love that you can buy the filled holes individually. Can't say enough about the high quality & freshness of everything I tried here. I'm sick & tired of getting what taste like day old kolaches & donuts at donut shops...not sure who keeps those places in business but it isn't me! The only negative thing is that they're too far from Sugar Land! On such a hot morning, it would have been ideal if there was a place to sit inside but small price to pay for delicious food. I know there are more treasures for me to find here! Can't wait to...
Read moreI’ve been here a few times to pick up breakfast. It’s supper cozy. Amazing costumer service. Things are fresh, and delicious. One time i called for a particular kolache because it was past 12 and I wanted to see if it was still in stock. Even though they were sold out, I believe it was Jennifer that says she would make more and it should be ready in 30 minutes that it took to get me there. By the time I arrived, she literally pulled it out of the oven, and placed them in the bag. First of all she didn’t have to bake more. But she did, and I am supper thankful for that. Even to this very day! These are things that honestly separate stores apart. You can’t purchase excellent costumer service and attention to detail, it’s an acquire skill. Restaurant owners please take note! And this separates the rest of the donuts places which I would have gone to from this particular one. Very detail oriented! Hmm also, coffee is simply delicious, the aroma is slightly dreamy. Will definitely be seeing me a lot more in 2019, by God’s Grace. To the owners of this place, your employees are simply amazing. They have character! Keep up...
Read moreIn this town, if you decide to make doughnuts you really have to step up to the plate. This is a case where good enough is not good enough. It's too easy for Houstonians to get their doughnut fix at the excellent Shipley's locations. I waited a while between my first two visits when River Oaks had just been open for a month or so and now, October 2014. After a bite out of a strawberry filled and a standard iced, I spit out the cold, gummy mess and tossed the remaining doughnuts in a trash can.
Now, it is most probable that when they come out in the morning and are still hot from the fryer, they may be extremely good. So please take what I say with a grain of salt. All I can go by is that it seems that, whatever time of the day I pick up doughnuts from Shipley's, regardless of location, they are warm and taste fresh.
And if you do go to River Oaks earlier in the day and find them to be good, please let me know and I will gladly retract my...
