I was very excited for the Local farmers market today, so I got my wagon and my baskets and my reusable bags and headed down there. I was in a great mood because it is a beautiful day. When I arrived I noticed the market looked extremely nice and pretty, and the atmosphere of a nice market is one of my favorite things. I was particularly looking forward to this because I know that most Farmers Markets including this one accept EBT and they even double your bucks for shopping local. Unfortunately when I arrived I was told that the market doesn't open up for EBT holders until mid-season. I was really disappointed and had to leave because I do not have cash to spend. I am sad that this market is reserved only for the middle and upper economic sector. I have been waiting for the market to open all year and it seemed so nice. This is the 1st farmer's market I've seen that doesn't accept EBT all season. It feels bad like being left out. I wasted the gas to drive there and back which was just a kick when Im down, and am returning home empty handed to my toddler who expected fresh fruits and veggies. I was feeling proud to be supporting my local community, but it seems they would rather avoid too much diversity. Too bad because they are the ones missing out on many nice folks like myself. I am an Interior Design student at Bellevue College, I love music and art, I have 2 kids and live in Issaquah Highlands. It's beautiful here, but what is the point if I have to drive to another town to purchase their local groceries because mine doesn't want...
Read morehaving lived in and out of the upper east side over the last dozen years - i never had the chance to go to the farmers market until this past weekend and what fun it was! Of course it being post covid - there was lots of people out. Masks were suggested but not mandatory for vaccinated folks. booths were still nicely spaced to be able to handle all the people and the sun was shining beautifully that day. Plenty to do and see in among the stands - the left side (when coming into the entrance) had lots of different home made goods and vendors which i thoroughly enjoyed - the right side had a variety of vendors but mostly all the same fresh fruits and produce. So it was a matter of picking your favorite farms and supporting them. There was about two or three food trucks in the back and a two stands serving food up front - I would have preferred to see a few more options for food vendors but over all a great and fun time! I look forward to coming back for more fresh fruits and supporting...
Read moreOne of the best farmers markets in an area with a lot of good markets! Weekend hours makes it more family-friendly than battling traffic for weekday evening markets during the witching hour 🤣 A nice venue for music with a semi-shaded lawn and tables and chairs on the grass, clean bathrooms, ample on-site parking, a great variety and number of vendors, and activities for kids. It gets crowded, but never as crowded as some of the markets in the city, and has good traffic flow. Indoor space inside Pickering Barn is nice if you need to get kids out of the sun. Breakfast options (pastries, breakfast burritos, crepes and waffles, as well as 2 coffee stands) make it a good morning destination, as well as obviously plenty of lunch and snack options. A couple of beer and wine vendors offer tastings, as well. Convenient to any other errands you might need to run, too. We are big, big fans and come almost every weekend, May...
