Iāve been debating on leaving this review since most of my experiences coming to this salon for the last 6 years has been nothing but great. The salon itself is super cute painted in hot pink, Dolly Parton themed and just overall welcoming. Iāve been loyally seeing Collie for haircuts since sheās a genius when it comes cutting thick hair. Unfortunately, Collie has moved to another state and upon setting an appointment with the front desk, they set me up with Anatalie.
The salon asks for clients to fill out a form prior to the appointment in which one of the questions asks for an inspo pic (see below). I also want to note it takes me an hour to commute to downtown jersey from Brooklyn where I live now. The salon is empty and itās just me and Anatalie. She informs me that most of the stylist are gone summer Fridays and that sheās covering for some of them. During our conversation, I find out that sheās actually the owner of the salon and that sheās not usually behind the chair. We have a great conversation, sheās very down to earth, very likable, and very easy to talk to.
I showed her the inspo pic before she started cutting, and I also told her that I included it in the form. Im requesting for a long shag with a 2 inch trim for any split ends. At this point, itās almost over two hours that Iāve been sitting in her chair and now sheās rushing to finish the trim post blow dry because her last client is waiting.
I think weāve all been there where weāre sitting in the chair and we see ourselves in the mirror and itās not looking like the inspo pic but weāre hoping its because itās not styled how you would do it at home. At this point, Iām not trying to be negative but Anatalie tells me that āif I see anything that looks off or needs to be trimmed more, to call in for another appointmentā to which is a alarming especially since she knows that I donāt live nearby.
When I get home, I brush my fingers through my hair and I feel that the ends of my hair were absolutely not debulked. It looks like a block of hair straight across. My layers were completely uneven; one side of my hair was thinned out way more than the other side. My right curtain bang was cut in too deep so it goes past my ear. She also cut much more than the 2 inches I requested. I texted the next day to see if I can get another stylist to fix it since it doesnāt seem like she is familiar with cutting thick hair or possibly itās been too long since sheās been behind the chair. I was told that it has to be her as there are no refunds offered. I paid about $165 with tip total. I did go to another salon and paid over $100 to get it fixed but the length of my hair was compromised and there are areas like my curtain bangs that canāt be fixed since hair is missing.
I wish Anatalie was straightforward and couldāve told me that a shag is out of her expertise and that if I come back another day, someone else couldāve attended me. And although a refund isnāt going to grow my hair out, it wouldāve been nice to have that to cover going to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went here for the first time back on the 5th. I had been considering getting my hair done again for perhaps.. 1 year to 1.5 years. I previously had an ombre done twice - first place was horrendous and the second place was alright. I was looking for a place that was a bit more conveniently located, and that didn't have their schedule booked for weeks on end. ( I didn't feel like waiting 5+ weeks for a hair coloring. ) I found this place! Their website showed such fantastic quality colors and cuts that I couldn't resist.
First, the atmosphere of the interior is incredible. You want nostalgic 80's / 90's? go here. they have retro TVs, beanie babies all over the doors, disco balls, and paint splatter print all over the upholstery. ( I want to state that I discovered their little "You are a pink starburst" neon sign yesterday, and it killed me ). If you look up near the ceiling you can find shelves with old toys and memorabilia sitting on it. In the bathroom is a hoot too - they had cassette tapes and covers all over the walls. The toilet-paper holder is a Polaroid camera š
the ladies are warm and welcoming. Most of them have colors in their heads, and I was like "Whoa! š". I was there for several hours yesterday, and contently listened to the ladies joking and laughing and having fun. Loved it! You can tell that they love their job!
Amanda was my stylist for both of my appointments and for the two times I've talked to her I have to say she's one of my favorite people. Her specialty is fantasy colors and she did incredible! She was very gentle with my hair ( I have a tender scalp ), checked the color with me and explained how it would look ( My brain didn't think that the bleached-yellow hair would nullify the dark blue color into a medium teal. I am smart. Except I am not ). she nailed the color so perfectly! I'm still giddy! I want to walk everywhere and go "look at my cool new hair!"
I'm going back in 6 weeks to recolor it and I'm...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreReally good stylists, but awful, arrogant front desk managers. I cancelled an appointment as I suddenly fell sick and did not want to visit the salon while I was under weather. I requested Sarah on the call to give me a cancellation credit (50% charge) which she agreed to. She never mentioned that I had to rebook within a week with the same stylist I had cancelled with, and only mentioned that she would write a note about the credit on my account. Next time, I booked with someone else, not knowing the conditions of the credit and didn't receive the credit. Sarah was at the front desk on this day and she told me that I will get the credit if I booked another appointment with the same stylist I cancelled with earlier, and hence I did that. The next time, I still didn't get the credit (The person Ciro at the front desk said that nothing was written in the notes. He promised to check with Sarah and get back to me but he never did). So Sarah repeatedly mentioned that I would get the credit not giving me full details but never gave me the cancellation credit. Even if you assume the first time was a misunderstanding, the next time Sarah was at the desk and she herself made the appointment with Pamela, the stylist I had cancelled with originally. I rebooked multiple appointments to use the credit and was charged in full everytime. Just an unfortunate situation because you will be repeatedly lied to in order to seem like a friendly bunch, but they will never follow through with the promises made. I really liked the work of Chay, Gianna (both don't work in the jersey city location anymore, good for them!!). Been going to the salon for almost 2 years but do not wish to...
