Living an hour away, this park is a special once a week venture for myself. So this is from the viewpoint of a non-local visitor. This is only for the dog park, not the rest of the park either. So the park's dog area is divided 3 ways between 1 1/2 acres roughly. A large open area for large dogs, a smaller enclosure for tiny dogs. Both of which are AstroTurf and has plenty of benches. A third fenced in area is available on natural ground with leaves, however this area is BADLY flooded when it rains. I'll describe each one individually. Large Dog Enclosure: Plenty of room for even two dozen dogs. The fountains weren't working when I went, but the rain had basically flooded the AstroTurf into a giant sponge. My dogs could go full gallop around the park. My own dogs aren't toy-oriented but there are plenty of tennis balls or flat basket balls to toss your pooch. The bone bridge is a favorite for peek-a-boo between dogs. My own wouldn't go near it until I had climbed over the top with them once. This is not allowed, as there is a sign that says no humans. Small Dog Enclosure: Very compact, feels tight compared to the large dog enclosure. Most that go in are very pampered and owners did not want them playing for prolonged periods of time.Often big dogs will go up to the fence and bark/try to play through it. Making small dog owners nervous. The turf was much dryer here, the area is just a tad higher ground wise. Great to go with a buddy, otherwise the luck of seeing another small dog owner is slim. Looks like it had a fountain area, but unsure. Natural Enclosure: Sloped with plenty of benches. Gets absolutely flooded when it rains. Water depth is between 2 inches and up to 7inches based on my dogs legs. The gates are sometimes left ajar and need to be checked before setting your pup loose. The Natural area connects to the Large dog area with a side gate. Great to warm up your dog when dry before entering the big dogs area. Birds love this area and will often have dogs chase them into flight. Poop is nearly non-existent. ~ Overall, great park when the weather is nice. Owners are attentive and poop is only missed if at the outer most rim. The overhangs are shade only, not rain cover. Dogs both local and abroad are friendly, well rounded. Some non-neutered males have caused some scuffles by being dominant, but the dogs handle themselves pretty well. Best dog park? Based on any parks North of it, it is hands down the one. Thanks for reading this far. Just wanted an honest description out there. Plan ahead before going if not local. Bring a towel regardless of weather. And let your dog be a dog, try to...
Read moreMy dog had a blast playing with the other dogs, but the owners were not as responsible as they seem to be at other dog parks. There was a lot of poop that had not been cleaned up. Some dogs were a little more of a bully than others and the owners did nothing to stop it. (Both of these things may have just been specific to the time/day that we went to this park.) The splash pad is very cool, but there is a big drainage problem as a lot of the astroturf had standing water. There was a strong smell of urine, also possibly due to the drainage problem. Some of the dog drinking fountains didn't work, so people filled up the supplied dog bowls from the people fountains and the dogs were happy. The locks on the gates took some assistance to figure out (push down on the pole that sticks up and it unlocks the gate), but they seem like a good design, just not one that I was familiar with. The agility stuff looked cool, but my dog wasn't ready to try any of it. Also, not sure why they have a wooded area connected to the dog park, yet it is fenced off. My dog would have had a blast if she had been allowed to run through both areas with other dogs. Instead, no other dogs were in the wooded area and so it seemed like a bad design afterthought. If they removed the fence separating the two areas and allowed the dogs to run freely throughout both (i.e. one continuous area), it would have definitely...
Read moreI remember when this park had it's grand opening years ago & how busy it was! It deterred us from visiting again until now. We finally went back to visit today as a bucket list item for our boy & was pleasantly surprised at how well maintained the park still was. The large park is huge with a water area & wooded area. The small dog area (less than 25lbs) was cute as well but not as large. It had a water area and some tunnels for the dogs. Then there was a third area that was only wooded with no water area to play in My only complaint is that some people just let their dogs loose without watching them. A little disheartening when you've got to payroll another person's dogs. Thankfully everyone cleaned up after their pets as there were plenty of bags and fresh water was plentiful. I highly recommend checking out the area. If this is your first visit, I do recommend puppies should stay in the small dog area until they are big enough for the large dog area or have learned their manners. It just helps as larger dogs can get fussy...
