As far as shopping: The clothes are mostly vintage and mostly decently prized (I bought a cute NWT sarong from the 50s for about $10)! However, I've seen a lot of modern brands (Zara, H&M, etc.) that are not vintage and the style is not what they claim to sell. However, there are several items during my trips to the store that are worn, old, torn, etc. and they are prized for at least $20 which I find crazy. As some of the comments mentioned before, the environment/vibe of the store is not welcoming at ALL. I truly feel like I'm being watched at every waking second when I'm walking around the store and the staff are not the kindest (except 2-3 employees). I'm not sure if it is because of my ethnicity/race (as other reviewers have emphasized this) but it is not enjoyable in the least.
As far as re-selling: DO NOT SELL YOUR ITEMS HERE! I truly, truly wanted to have a good experience re-selling here but every time I try it is always a headache. Firstly, I bring in all of my items nicely folded and EVERY TIME they are returned thrown into my bag/bin. It is simply not that hard to fold up a t-shirt or a dress when it is presented in that way. Plato's closet folds my clothes back up so why can't a 'curated' store do the same? Secondly, they do not seem to grasp what vintage clothing is. I've brought in vintage coats (easily searchable with the clothing tag) and they are returned every time. But the random deadstock graphic tees I brought in were taken? It does not add up. They pass up on a lot of nice quality clothing, such as GAP, Banana Republic, Ralph Lauren, etc. but always take target brands for example.
OVERALL: I don't get the hype around the store, but more so I don't like the shopping or the selling experience, you're better off going anywhere else to buy real vintage/unique finds and selling your clothes to Plato Closet, uptown cheap stake, etc. My friends who shop/sell here have had similar experiences so keep...
Read moreNot really sure what the deal is with this place, but in a decent bit of the reviews online you can see people mentioning feeling either uncomfortable or even judged by the staff, sometimes over race, and sometimes over petty things like the clothes they are wearing. I had a pretty weird experience kind of like that here today. I came in with my friend to sell some clothes, which I have routinely done for maybe a year or so now. When my buy was finished, I asked the employee over the counter if he had taken a pair of shoes that I brought in, I didn’t see them in the bin in front of me and just wanted to make sure that they weren’t mixed into another buy. I was polite as could be but unexpectedly received a rude response. The employee pretty much snapped at me and said they couldn’t take them because they are fake. I understand that this is a vintage store and their specialty is not designer items, so I do not really expect the employee to be able to properly authenticate Bottega Veneta. I brought them in only because I was curious to see what I would earn for a designer item here, and honestly had no intention of selling them. Still, this interaction felt very targeted and also made me uncomfortable. I did not pick a fight or try to argue with his claim, I said thank you and left. This is a good place to sell vintage items but I do not plan on returning. I’ve had good experiences with all other employees but this has ruined...
Read morethe store itself is pretty good. i love the whole vibe and staff for the most part are very helpful. i just have an issue with the staff that do the buying. i understand that they have a certain limit on what the can take etc. etc. but a few days ago i brought a couple of bags of clothing and out of those two bags they took only TWO items. im not mad at that, but my issue is with their reasoning as to why majority of my stuff was rejected. the employee at the counter told me all my other items were “too worn”. I didn’t have a problem with that because that’s understandable, but majority of my items were fairly new and i make sure to bring in clothing that are intact. I knew she was lying to me about the reason because as i was shopping i found tshirts with STAINS and HOLES. I found some shoes that were WORN OUT, so idk why she lied to me. idk it’s a pretty cool place but I don’t like the fact that they sell stained and clothing that’s falling apart for $30 dollars. i think...
