I’d like to say that I came in during a somewhat busy part of the day, so consider that a bit as you read; I don’t want to just completely bash the place.
First of all the whole place felt sort of, “cluttered”? It wasn’t messy in the physical sense but it felt messy and a bit disorganized. I walk to the counter and there are three RSOs talking with each other and helping customers. I admit I found it a bit off-putting hearing them say stuff about how a group of people at a bay were “completely new”.
The “orientation” was also concerning. To go into the place all you do is sign a waiver (which has no rules or procedures, literally just a piece of paper saying “you have no rights” that you sign) and then off you go. No video to watch, no rules to read; you could have no idea how a gun works and they would let you on. I told the guy I have experience but my guest with me didn’t, they did not have to prove that they had any competency whatsoever. I’m not advocating arguing with customers but it would be pretty easy to lie your way in.
So we get onto the firing line (for a good price I will admit) and I immediately notice the pretty heavy smell of gunpowder. They do have ventilation, but I really wouldn’t want to spend either a long time or many visits on the line as I suspect the contaminants in the air are fairly dense. The shooting bays are also very cramped. With a bag on the bench, you have maybe 2ft of open room. If they had maybe 8 bays instead of 10 I believe the issue would be resolved. Target runners were fairly old by modern standards but worked fine and did their job. Also the dividers weren’t bulletproof, which I feel is near standard nowadays, and would have made me feel a lot better about shooting with people who didn’t have to prove competence. Space behind the line was also pretty limited so anybody not shooting will get cramped if other groups are nearby. The RSO who corrected me on rapid fire was a bit high-and-mighty about it, though this attitude seems to be more standard at ranges nowadays so I brushed it off.
My entire experience I just felt mildly uncomfortable, which is not how I want myself or others feeling when firearms are involved.
Ultimately I would use this place only for function checks because it’s the cheapest range in the area if you aren’t a member. However if you plan on shooting often, I can’t really come up with reasons that make it better than other ranges in the area. If you need indoors I know Bellevue gun club is much nicer, with its yearly membership actually costing less (though I think only the basic tier, which offers the same things as this place). Tacoma also has some places I believe. Also for even less money you could join Renton fish and game or Seattle Police Athletic Association, which are about 200 dollars a year and have 15-50 yard pistol, 50-200 rifle, and RFGC has a Trap and skeet field.
This isn’t the worst place in the world but there are simply better options...
Read moreFirst let me start off by saying how much I enjoy this place ( Raincity Shooting Center)....!
There facility is definitely top notch and their staff members do a fantastic job in making you feel comfortable with each visit.
Whenever I've had any problems with my firearms, the staff has been more than welcome to help.
I'll been shooting at their range for quite some time, in fact some of the staff members know me by name when I walk in.
I consider the ower to be fairly reasonable when it comes to buying and selling firearms.
I feel that I have great relationship with (Raincity Shooting Center) I've sold and I've even bought firearms from them.
So my overall experience with them has been nothing short of amazing, well that was until yesterday.....!
I checked as usual with my paperwork already filled out and handed to the young man at the counter (Jake) his first response was you don't have a phone..? WE NEED YOURNUMBER.....!
I definitely give credit to a staff member who recognized that this situation could possibly get out of hand simply because(Jake) was being aggressive for no reason at all.
He quickly tried to defuse the situation by telling him (Jake) to calm down, explaining to him that I was a regular,
His response to that was, but is he a member.....?
After this unfriendly exchange he also had the nerves to sternly reminded me to put my head and eye protection on...! Wow and all of this hostility while I was still standing at the counter.....
At this time his co-worker reminded him again to calm down, that I was totally aware of the facilities rules and that he was out of line.....!
I patiently waited until I finished my rounds to talk to him (Jake) about his behavior. At first he thought that he didn't do anything wrong but after explaining how I felt about his aggressive approach, he finally apologized.
Again I absolutely enjoy (Raincity Shooting Center) but (Jakes) behavior cannot and shouldn't be tolerated..!
And this young man (Jake) is also one of (Raincity Shooting Center firearms) instructor, This definitely is acceptable behavior.
Just purchased my Sig P356x from Raincity Shooting Center on Wednesday, wow very happy with it....! Although I have shot Sig's before, never had the pleasure of shooting this one. Until now I'll only heard good and bad things about it, but did my own research before the purchase... After Shooting it today(300 rounds) I truly can say it the real deal for sure.......! This is my third purchase with Raincity Shooting Center, gotta say that with each purchase I been more than pleased with their service and knowledge of firearms. The ower has been incredible on point with purchasing and the trading of my firearms. Each person in that department seems to be very knowledgeable and that's definitely makes for an enjoyable experience. Thank you Raincity Shooting...
Read morePlace was already kinda sketchy when i called and asked if my little sister could shoot my handguns shes 19 im 26. And couldent get a definite answer. after checking with the manager we got the ok. Went down and got on the range fairly quickly. The ppl behind the counter were a little laid back from what i could tell and sent us to lane 1 against the wall. No problems there.
What i had a problem with is halfway through our shooting session, when I was loading my mags. I had caught somone elces ricochet to the side of the chest just below my armpit. And it stung like i had been stung by a bee. I had a 1/4 inch mark there with alittle cuts. Sister snaped a picture and i went to the guys behind the counter and told them what had happened. Asked them if they could see if i was bleeding or had any marks and instantly was replyed back with your fine, they dident even look. they then scouted the lanes becides ours seeing what ppl were shooting. They told me i was fine just continue shooting "if it happens again we will cease fire." So me now unnerved i might get hit again finished off our ammo and were getting redy to leave. The guy then asked me if i had caught anymore lead and explained that this happens with 40 and 45 acp. the ammo is too slow and the bullet sometimes squashes out against the trap and sends lead running down the walls of side lanes. Said we dont normaly see it happen in the winter, more so the summer. (idk what this means. But they know it happens.)
Another thing was the staff let this couple who were new shooters on the range and the woman walked on with no eyes or ears was deffened by a shot and she put her ears on. The guy her boyfreind i assume. then Walked on with eyes on but no ears same thing happend.
All in all it was unnerving to be hit by somone elces ricochet and told its fine, your fine just continue shooting and if it happens again we will do somthing. Just kinda made me feel like well when hes really bleeding or dying then its a problem, we could care less. But they knew what caused it? why not move us to a middle lane? or if this is a know problem why hasent it been addressed?
Cant say i would come back or not. But if i do or you do, STAY OUT OF...
