Ulta Beauty — Attraction in La Quinta

First, I will say that my personal experience with Lauren was amazing. Very sweet and I appreciated any feedback she gave. However, my mother's experience with the "Kylie" rep (the name he gave was Christian) was not ok. While I understand that he has worked (per his own words) at Neiman Marcus, worked with celebrities, and major photographers, my mother was not happy with the makeup choices he did for her. I personally thought the color looked great, however my mother didn't feel confident. She was very distressed that he snapped at her and she felt like she NEEDED to buy the product so he wouldn't be mad at her. I told her absolutely not, and I put the product back. She felt demoralized because she's 77 and wanted to look pretty for our family pictures. I understand it can be frustrating trying to find the right look, but I do not think that snapping at my mother was the right course of action. I felt so bad for her as we were driving home. She didn't feel comfortable addressing the situation (as I thought we should have) and wanted to leave. I came in to shop for hair products and had a really off-putting experience. I’ve been followed around at this location before, so this time I didn’t bring a purse just my wallet and keys. When I asked for help with hair products, the employee immediately showed me the affordable/cheaper option…. When I asked to see higher-end products, the vibe shifted….suddenly I couldn’t try a tester bottle that was clearly labeled “tester,” and the associate seemed super weird about it. I kept browsing because I wasn’t going to buy a $44 bottle I couldn’t even sample. While I looked around, another employee offered help and then literally hovered around me as I shopped. It felt more like surveillance…. I don’t like that I have to feel self-conscious or look a certain way just to shop in peace. This kind of energy feels borderline discriminatory and definitely made me uncomfortable enough to leave. Be aware….if you’re not dressed a certain way or don’t “look like” a big spender, you might get treated...

I went in knowing pretty much nothing about make up asking for help to start trying things for my upcoming wedding. At first it took a while to get some help, then ai girl took me to the back to show me some stuff to try. She didn't really listen too the colors I wanted but it looked ok on the one eye, then she took it off. She took me to the Clinique girl Leslie. Leslie is the reason this is such a good review. She took her time showing me what worked best with my skin and gave me tips and tricks on how to use the makeup. At the end I loved what she did and felt I could do it myself at home. Then she helped me pick the right products to fit my budget. She told me what products were best to get them and what I could get later if I decided I wanted them. She kept me within the budget I had set going in and was so fun to work with. She is also really focused on making everything sanitary!
