Beautiful location.
Personally, I bring lunch to the beach to save some money but you do you and have a visit.
It's a beautiful town and the costline is stunning. Fantastic for long walks around many well-known and local artists' work shops, restaurants, sculptures, and architecture to keep you contented.
The sunsets are an experience in their own right.
Activities: Main beach has basketball, beach volleyball, and many hills to walk. You can and will, most likely be walking a lot more than you realize if you haven't visited before and like to window shop.
Water sports. Because Laguna has shore breaking waves, it can be a fun beach for skimboarding in the alowed areas marked by flags in the summer. Same for surfing. It is not the best for surfing most days, but..
It's a fantastic Scuba diving and snorkeling location. Many dives can be from the shore in coves north of Main beach. It is NOT recommended to inexperienced divers or divers with no cold water experience. A dive guide is a great option to hire and experienced divemaster from a nearby shop for the morning. A minimum of 7mm wetsuits are highly recommended when scuba diving. The average water temp at the surface is 65-70°F. Expected VIS is about 15-20ft but can get much better than that. The coves around the beaches are covered in thick kelp and rock reefs, and the biodiversity is immense. but be cautious of large swells and strong currents. some days can phenominal.
Here are some photos I took with just a phone camera. Christmas Eve 2023 in downtown Laguna off...
Read moreIf you’re visiting Southern California, Laguna Besch is a lovely stop, A quintessential California beach town. If you only have an afternoon, it’s a great place to go for lunch, or relax at the beach, or go on a walk through the village. If you can spend the night or a weekend, especially in the summer, there’s much to do, including taking in the “pageant of the masters“ theater, where they make an art masterpiece come alive, literally! The photos I took here were of the sunset in the winter, and winter can be very nice time to visit, especially in December when it tends to be dry but cool. That was a spectacular sunset that I enjoyed. Laguna Hotel Accommodations can be pricey; there’s some very luxurious resorts in the area, but there’s also smaller hotels right on Pacific Coast Highway
In terms of reviewing the beach specifically, Main beach park is the busiest part of the beach as it’s very close to the village. So there’s just more activity going on there typically. I used to go to West Street Beach which Further down the road on Pacific Coast Highway and a little tricky in terms of its acc ess to get to the beach. You need to find the little stairway in between private residences that allows you access to West Street beach. It used to be the beach frequented by gay guys; I’m not sure if that’s the case now. it’s somewhat private. the waves could be quite strong with the riptide. So one has to be careful of that. Other parts of Laguna Beach are known for...
Read moreAbsolutely beautiful beach. The healthy kelp forest just offshore gives daily showings of seals, dolphins, and the occasional smaller whales. I have been going to Main Beach Park for many decades and the homeless/druggie/alcoholic problem in not good at all. This is a tourist beach and it strongly supports the local economy. As it stands now the smaller kiddo playing area is about 20 feet, not yards feet, from where the many indigent and troubled adults are. The tourist dollars are fleeting as it is and this arrangement is a blight on the local economy. They are not just sitting and enjoying the day. There are tents and packs of belongings. There are many alternatives for the adult homeless. I donate to many of them. The rest of Laguna Beach depends on the tax dollars the downtown should be bringing in. I hope this can be changed to help the economy and the homeless. Shaking my head here.
Update two years later. They have cleaned up this lovely beach and helped the homeless find shelter. "The Covid" has actually cleared out everyone. It will be wonderful to return to living someday. 01/15/2022 Update Five years later. I am happy happy happy. LWPD and community have done a wonderful job of updating the main beach park and the homeless problem is...
