Movie Trading Company — Attraction in Lewisville

I debated for a while between giving this place 2-4 stars…3 stars seems more fitting but the disrespect I felt from management...

This place does NOT care about the hobby or passion people have to collecting and preserving old media and only wants to make a quick buck. I will go from visiting this place about once a week to potentially never again…It’s a perfectly fine place to browse around for older nostalgic movies and games with staff that (for the most part) is friendly and helpful, though from my experience management is extremely corporate and only there to take your money, HOWEVER if you plan on buying something not currently in the store I would HIGHLY recommend just browsing on ebay or even facebook marketplace first. I had been spending a lot of money (not that it should matter) recollecting movies and games from my childhood and for the most part it was amazing, so as I been buying and remembering old games I used to play as a kid I decided that this place seemed okay enough to order games from their other stores but… BUYER BEWARE I spent around $30 (plus $5 shipping which in fairness they give a gift card to cover that cost) to get a game that I have absolutely been wanting for a lot of years but never came across it or ended up actually buying it online anywhere so when they told me they had a copy of the game in another state I was ecstatic to finally own it… When the game finally came in and I got home with it I noticed a lot of glaring issues like the box art was just printed on a piece of paper, there was some rough damage on the box and the piece of paper “box art” that leads directly to the disk, which thankfully didn’t damage the disk as far as I can tell, though there are some rough scratches in the center part of the disk, and there was no manual (which again is to some extent expected for old games/movies) so because I paid ~$35 for what I thought would have been at least the case and disk I asked if they could/would do anything, which honestly all I really wanted was a DVD case that wasn’t messed up and management absolutely refused to compensate in any way whatsoever, from not willing to give me a different case (there was an employee that looked around even though the manager said no but only came up with another damaged case) to even getting a different copy or refund simply because the disk “worked” and the disk has some sticker that covers part of the disk art and is basically impossible to remove without damaging it so that’s awesome and totally worth $35 plus tax!! I doubt the sticker was put on by this particular company, but still with so many issues I feel like the game’s price should have reflected that. So to end off this review if you find anything in store make sure to inspect it thoroughly to make sure it’s to your liking and NEVER purchase something that has to be ordered and you can’t...

It's been a long time since I've been here I've been very busy in his year of 2020. Before I start I have to thank God for blessing me to live to see this day. And also I like to say to all Happy New Year. My experience at movie trade how can you go wrong buying movies in also they have music I didn't know that but anyway the customer service is very good they had to help me all through my visit what I needed help. This is my first visit at this location since then I've been a couple of times but my experiences was fantastic. For the prices I couldn't believe it it was so breathtaking I really was looking for this song that I wanted my brother to dance to and I was so fortunate to get the soundtrack so cheap. And my brother when he first heard this song on the soundtrack he fell in love with it. So when the weather get better I'm going to take him out on the town and let him enjoy his birthday and while he's in the car I'm going to play the song for him he's going to be so thrilled about it. The store that I have visited is Lewisville by the mall to the staff thank you so much for your services I have really did enjoy getting movies and also getting some music that I was looking for so I am a satisfied customer and I will be returning in the near future. No matter who you are — a serious collector, a casual movie or video game fan, someone looking to offload a few items, or even an employee — this business manages to take advantage of everyone who walks through the door. It’s impressively consistent, if nothing else.

Store-level employees are paid wages that keep them squarely in the poverty bracket. Store Managers fare slightly better — emphasis on slightly. The buyback values enable markups that range from eyebrow-raising to borderline absurd, often hundreds or even thousands of percent. And while the pricing of individual products can occasionally result in a lucky find, it's far more likely to leave you overpaying for something you could get elsewhere for much less.

There’s far more wrong with this operation than I could responsibly detail in a public forum — and trust me, it would take hours. Just know that every visit supports Live Ventures, a subsidiary of BlackRock. That should tell you plenty.
