We visit every chocolate/candy shop in areas we visit and it is something we look forward to doing. We were looking forward to this candy shop in particular and drove well out of our way to stop here. The owner was right there behind the counter, looked at us but didn't say anything when we walked in which was surprising. Very off-putting. All of the other candy shops were welcoming. The shop wasn't busy and the only other people there, were busy looking at items in back. I chose a couple of items and the owner acted like it was an inconvenience for her to get them out of the case. I asked if she had a particular kind I was looking for and she seemed impatient and perturbed that I asked. I was planning on buying a lot more, but I found her attitude and behavior quite rude so I changed my mind. Interestingly enough, when delivery people walked in the door, she suddenly found her voice and was very chatty and nice. Hmm, but she couldn't be bothered to at least acknowledge customers. Regardless of her terrible customer service, we still looked forward to the chocolate. Not only was it the most expensive chocolate we bought out of all the places we have visited over the years, but the candy was the worst tasting we had. It tasted like some generic, fake chocolate you could buy at any discount store. We were absolutely stunned and curious how this place was highly rated with the terrible chocolate we had. We visit town often and were planning on adding it to our list of fun must-go places, but it was a huge let down, waste of time and money. Save your taste buds and your money because there are better tasting candy stores...
Read moreThis place is AMAZING!! We were on vacation, and we swung by on the way down to Florence, and on the way back home. We have many chocolate stores in Portland, but The Chocolate Frog has them beat! The store itself is super aesthetically pleasing. There are local artisan works for sale all along the shelves that wrap around the inside of the store. They made good use of the limited space they have.
The chocolates themselves are delicious, too! Low wax content, high quality...(I used to work at a chocolate store when I was in college. They made us sample all of the products so we could describe them to customers. That made me spoiled, causing me to set the bar for chocolates pretty high) So knowing this, make sure you don't leave them in a hot car, or you will be disappointed later on. The fudge is great too, although my palate for that particular confection is less refined.
They have these adorable chocolate frogs eating a gummy worm. And some w/out worms. The chocolate frogs from bum to snout are exactly 3".
Both times we went, the cashiers asked to see my frog when I mentioned I had one....and seemed genuinely pleased.
Great product, great service, and happy customers. All a great recipe for the success...
Read moreYou have to go checkout this new candy store in Lincoln City! My husband and I visited this store for the first time today and are so glad we did. The owner greeted us as soon as we walked in and let us know we were free to try any of the taffy varieties found in the shop. He even let us know about the type of taffy that it was, in that, it was an egg white based taffy. We were in this store for over an hour just looking at all the different items. They have candy imported from Germany, honey from Australia, several types of German mustard, jerky made from mushrooms, chocolate frogs, jams from several countries and the list just keeps going. The store was previously located in Waldport and is still relatively new to Lincoln City. The owner's wife is a chocolatier and makes a lot of the items in the chocolate counter. If you're looking for unique, fun items, this is the place. The owner let us know he is expecting a shipment of holiday items around Thanksgiving. We will be going back in a few weeks to get stocking stuffers. By the way, did you know they sell socks in a...
