My boyfriend and I decided to spend Thanksgiving weekend at the beach. I've always thought the O'Dysius looked quite nice. It is newer and located right on the D River. I couldn't remember whether or not it was right on the beach or if it was slightly off. Don't be deceived by the pictures on their website. We had a fourth floor room in the five story hotel. The view did look over the ocean, but there was a parking lot and another hotel in the way. This was, however, forgivable. The first night we were there, we went to put some food we had purchased in the fridge. There was leftover food in the fridge that was not removed when the room was cleaned last. The smell of garlic lingered throughout the remaining four days of our visit. This was, however, forgivable. The hotel was in adequate shape. Overall still new, but clearly not maintained with high standards. The walls were dingy, the couch was worn out and the paint on the deck railing was chipped and pieces were falling on the deck. This was, however, forgivable. The hotel is clearly geared toward people that are over 65. There is nothing to forgive for this, but being 30 it didn't appeal to me. The price was higher than everyone else in town and they charged $25 a night for bringing a dog (again more than anyone else). This was, however, forgivable. The real PROBLEM was that I went to take the dog out at 6am and couldn't get back into the building. I didn't bring my cell phone with me, so I had to go to the D River public phone and call my boyfriend to come let me in. The card reader on the door wasn't working. I would have forgiven this if the response to my concern wasn't "Well, just remember to bring your cell phone." Rather than apologizing and offering to pay for the $15 collect phone calls that I had to make (three to wake him up), they just told me that they have had the same problem and that I should make sure I bring my cell phone. It is completely unacceptable to not invest money in your hotel to fix basic necessities such as these. It is even more unacceptable to not apologize and make your guests create a workaround. I would take a lower quality hotel with friendly customer service (such as the Red Lion in Coos Bay that we stayed at after staying here for half the price) any day. I will definitely never return to...

Cozy Comfortable and Convenient is the three words that I can best describe the 30-room Shearwater Inn to be. I really like the coziness of this property, in that its compact size, perched on small hill adjacent to the D river and rooms facing the ocean makes this property unique without the cookie cutter feel of the other properties that line Highway 101.
Our room, 2204, was a King Standard Room on the 2nd floor. All the King Standard rooms are on this level and the only difference between these rooms and the ones above, is the view and a balcony. The room was very comfortable for two adults with ample space to sit down and enjoy the ocean view or watch the wall-mounted Flat Screen TV.
The wife & I really liked the convenience of this location. Easy day trip drives to visit Tillamook in the North or Newport in the South. But in our opinion, the best part of this location is that Kyllo's Seafood Restaurant is right next door to the property. This restaurant can get real busy because of its popularity, with waits of 1 to 2 hours. With that being said, you can check in with the host, return to the comfort of your room and when your table is ready, you head back down to restaurant.
The only negatives about this visit is that the parking lot is small with spaces meant for compact cars. Also, the fireplace in room 2204 was not operating correctly, which didn't matter much because of the 50 degree weather. The only reason this review wasn't given a 5-Star rating is the disappointed service we received when we called the front dest for assistance on Sat. Feb. 27th, at around 5:00 pm. We were watching TV, as we were getting ready for dinner, and the TV started reprogramming itself. We called the front desk and her response was that "all you have to do, is unplug the wires behind the box and if that doesn't work, there is nothing else I can do, because I don't have the time to come up to your room". Obviously, we were very disappointed in that response and hope that was an abnormality, rather...
Read moreLovely hotel. The hotel and rooms are extremely clean. There is a lot of attention to detail and I really appreciate that. We booked the King Studio With Ocean View and paid $529 for 3 nights. Check in is 4-10pm and check out is 11am. Our room had a balcony and ocean view. It also had a fireplace and single person jetted tub The breakfast options are boiled eggs, yogurt with berries and granola, bagel and cream cheese, and muffins. They only offer delivery right now because of the pandemic but it's actually really nice and makes the experience more personal. When you check in they give you a slip and you circle your breakfast choices, select your delivery times, then turn it in to the front desk. They also have an on site spa tub that you can book by appointment. Even though it faces the parking lot and highway it's a cozy little area that offers a decent amount of privacy. This is a hotel that does allow pets so keep in mind you may hear occasional dogs barking. Also, it is right off the highway so you will hear the traffic as well. Additionally, Kyllo's Seafood and Grill is under renovation so you will hear the noise from the construction in the mornings. It is currently not open for business but there are plenty of nearby restaurants. If you're looking for drinks, the Nauti Mermaid Beach House is awesome! As far as beach access, you are literally about 100ft from the beach. It's a really great location. The beds are comfortable. The mattresses are on the firm side, which is what we prefer. The pillows are squishy and flatten and I didn't find them to be that comfortable. But you can easily stack a couple for more support. I also want to add that housekeeping is very mindful of respecting your privacy, which was really appreciated. Would I book again? Yes I would. Good value for the price? Absolutely. Perfect for a quiet getaway? Probably not. But if you want to be close to shops, bars, and restaurants while enjoying a clean room, the sounds of the ocean, and a cozy warm fireplace this is...
