1st I want to say that I love living in Little Elm and I support our City officials and at one time I loved the Rec Center. But unfortunately I have to make people aware of how heartless, insensitive and absolutely ridiculous it can be to have to deal with the office staff for the Rec. Center. I pray others have a better experience than I have had. So back in 2020, I became a member to the Rec Center. But on this same year we had a child born into our family that was born fully disabled with a rare terminal illness. Needless to say life became chaotic in the least. From doctors appointments to hospital stays. So the Gym became a distant friend. But when your child is in ICU fighting for their life, the last thing you think of is the gym right? But when you get sent home from the hospital your only outlet is working out to try and relax or work out the stress of what you’re going through. Fast forward to December 2022, life was rough….and I hadn’t been to the gym in months, the hospital was our second home and I had been notified that our account at the rec center was negative. I reached out to ask for some sort of leniency, I asked for them to look at our account, to understand we hadn’t used it, it had been inactive and explain that we have a child in the hospital and to please waive the fees that had accumulated. Because even though it was only $50 a month, that money could be used for gas to and from the hospital and food to feed our family. The gym fees were the last thing on our minds. But I was told no, that she was sorry that our family was experiencing health issues but there was nothing she could do. To submit a cancellation form. I understand policy is policy, but previous to this email, I had gone to the rec center in person multiple times only to be told to email someone because the front desk couldn’t help me, I was told call this number and speak to someone about your account only to get a voicemail, I had emailed previous persons, asking to please help with my account, only to be told that person is no longer in that position. Now here we are today, I go into the office in person to finally come face to face with a person and as she sat there with no emotion or care in the world as I was in full tears asking to please help me, I was denied. How can you charge me for an account I didn’t use, how can I be completely help accountable when I tried so many times to get it resolved. But yet as I pled for help I was denied. I understand responsibility but I also believe in compassion and remorse. I have proof our child was in the hospital and can prove that what I’m saying is 100 accurate and not a lie. My husband more recently has now had some health issues and wanted to go back to the gym, but we have an outstanding balance due to a membership we never used. And can not start a new membership. But they are not willing to help in anyway. I found my interaction with Ms. L Briner Heartless and unforgiving. I guess that I am built from a different seed, because this truly made me realize that all anyone cares about is money and us people are the mules who carry it to them. I will never return to this rec. Center. Knowing this is how we...
Read moreI love the the Rec. What a great little “gem” right in the heart of Little Elm. The pricing is very fair for the value, they have everything I could ask for and plenty more to grow into as I progress. It is $25/month for an individual resident and I manage to average 2 classes a week (depending on what I can fit in) and I go to the gym 3-5 days a week. I love that they open at 5am on weekdays, it makes it really easy for this working mom to get in there and get my workout done before work and school and everything else starts. Let's get real, if it isn’t convenient, I am not going to do it. The equipment is state of the art, there is plenty to go around, and room to workout without feeling like you are in someone else’s space.
The staff – the staff is great. Everyone there is warm, knowledgeable and friendly. Cassie the Fitness & Wellness Supervisor puts so much heart into the different community events and it shows. From the MFC to the Walk for Wellness and on September’s Muscle Mania she keeps up involved, engaged and moving. She even formed a weekday walking club to engage the community at large that is open to all.
I also want to shout out all of the wonderful group instructors. They make everything feel possible and less intimidating even if you are a beginner (and trust me, I am a beginner’s beginner). When members asked for Pilates, Taryn made it happen! Although until recently I have never done Pilates, I am really enjoying it and am loving learning my “exercise yoga” class. A very special thank you to Adrian who’s patient and calming presence never ceases to amaze me. I LOVE her strength class! She has probably shown me how to use proper form when doing a skull crusher no less than 20 times, but she never gives up. She is ALWAYS kind, patient and focused on making sure we are safe, using proper form and getting the most we can out of our workout. If you see Adrian’s name, trust me, trust her and just take the class. Seriously Adrian could teach an undefined class called, “Exercise Stuff No One Likes: No Really” and I would still try it. She is so great. Start with one of her strength classes, you won’t regret it!
I need affordability (check), proximity (check), engagement (check), consistency (check), support (check) and convenience (check). The Rec hits all those notes and over the last 6 months it has had a very positive effect on my health and overall life. I feel stronger, have a greater range of motion and extension and absolutely feel much more empowered and sure of myself than I did earlier this year. Grab a day pass and check it out. I...
Read moreI called the rec and spoke with a lady who advised me I could start my application online and come in to complete and take advantage of my membership that same day. When I came in to complete my application the young men at the front (very nice and respectful) had no idea what to do, couldn’t find my application, and were completely clueless that you could even start online. I ended up having to complete the entire application again ( while my kiddos were waiting patiently to go to the cove) … the overall process ended up taking at least 45 minutes as the young man was having issues even completing the information in person. He had to refer to texting another incorrect , she then referring to what appeared to be a job aid. Again, the young man was super polite but my concern is being given inco information the day prior and the lack of training provided to team members. I was extremely close to leaving...
