My original review posted several weeks ago was the following:
"This was my first visit to this theater. We usually go to our local Emagine, but we decided to try this place despite the 45-minute drive. I was looking forward to a late-night showing of Gladiator II with my girlfriend, but unfortunately, it turned out to be the worst theater experience I’ve ever had.
The concessions staff were fantastic—no complaints there. However, the movie itself was completely overshadowed by a disruptive group of teenagers in the back. They spent the entire 2.5-hour film talking, yelling, laughing, and even taking flash photos and videos.
When I say the entire movie, I mean it. What started as loud whispering quickly escalated to normal talking, shouting, and even cracking jokes like, “Why did the chicken cross the road?” It was impossible to follow the dialogue, and the situation became so unbearable that other patrons began voicing their frustrations. At one point, someone told the group to “shut up,” only to be met with a dismissive “chill bro, it won’t happen again.” Of course, it did—and it got worse.
What shocked me most was the complete lack of staff intervention. With all the noise and constant flashes, I was surprised no one stepped in to address the situation. If this theater has a no-talking or no-phone-use policy, it clearly wasn’t enforced.
I understand that movie theaters aren’t completely silent spaces—people talk, and that’s normal. What’s not normal is treating the back of the theater like a party room when everyone else is there to enjoy a film. Unless this theater takes real steps to prevent this kind of behavior, I don’t see myself returning.
I'll update this review if Phoenix Theaters rectifies this issue."
The owner (or someone working for customer support) responded to this review, giving me an email address, customer_support@phoenixmovies.net. However, this email address does not exist and is currently nonactive, so any customer support issues are never received by this theater.
I contacted the movie theater and relayed this to them. I received no response. I wouldn't be surprised if this place intentionally uses a fake/disabled customer support email address to purposely avoid legitimate customer complaints.
Movies are expensive these days. The least you can do is enforce your theater's rules and hire someone in IT who understands how...
Read moreUPDATE: September 2022, My husband and I have returned to see a couple of movies over the summer. I can happily report that Phoenix has returned to it's high levels of cleanliness and customer service. The only disappointment is that they're no longer carrying favorite movie snacks: Junior Mints and Goobers. There are still plenty of supply & demand issues as a result of the pandemic so I don't hold this against them.
Original post, June 2021: Prior to the pandemic this was our favorite place to see movies, and I would have given 5 stars then. It was well organized and clean. The theater seats were wiped down and cleaned between movies, along with the floors. (Again, they were doing this before the pandemic). The seats are heated and recline, and are much more comfortable than standard movie theater seats.
I saw mostly young employees (probably high school age) working when I was there to see Black Widow the other night. There were no directives for where to lineup and wait for entrance to the assigned theater (as was routine pre-Covid). Once in the theater, the cleanup job was not nearly as thorough as years prior. There was popcorn in the seat and liquid on the cup holder. I don't think they wiped down the seats at all.
My educated guess is that everyone who was working here before the pandemic have acquired other jobs, and there isn't anyone with historical knowledge/experience of how to organize & clean to the Phoenix Theatre standards. I think the new hires just need time to learn, practice, and get into a groove.
I do like that we were able to purchase our tickets and reserve our seats ahead of time online. I'm hopeful that, with time, the theatre will return to its pre-pandemic level of cleanliness and organization. I'm sure it's hard right now for them to find a...
