Nijiya market is a nice mix between a 7-11 and a Ralph's. Be warned that many of the products are imported with little to no translation on the packaging more often than not. Double check what you purchase because like many things in a grocery store, it might not be for you. If you are walking in with a modicum of knowledge around Japanese food products, then you've found an ideal snack shop. They come with the usual candies and sodas closer to the front area with bakery goods like bread, rolls, and buns. Deeper in you have some fruit juices, chips, and even a meat section. Then there's the utensil aisles for kitchen appliances, aforementioned utensils, and so on. And at the deepest lart are the vegetables which inckude cabbage, daikon, shitake mushroom and more. It really does have nice variety but remember that they're still foreign products. Don't be shy and ask an employee there about the product you have a question on and I'm sure they'll help. They're very nice there.
Pictures includes a single product there with a cute mascot on front. It was a kind of gummy candy where you get a mold to make shapes out of them. Niche product but Japan is kind of the...

Read moreNijiya Market is another one of my favorite Japanese markets when I'm in the mood to get ready made, grab and go Japanese meals to take home. The convenience is what I really like about Nijiya Market.
Nijiya has a vast selection of ready made Bento Boxes like fresh sushi, sashimi, teriyaki beef or chicken or salmon, cutlets, and croquettes. They always sell out by mid afternoon, because the majority of shoppers (including me) tend to buy multiple items to stock up for week. The ready made Japanese bento boxes are prepared on a daily basis, but the best selections are always in the morning when the market opens and the display cases are fully stocked.
Aside from the ready to eat meals, Nijiya has a good selection of Japanese groceries like rice, dry noodles, soy sauce, ramen, and fresh produce. The meat and seafood selections are modest however. I personally like the selections of frozen food items like gyoza and Japanese snack foods. It's always hard to make up my mind whenever I see...
