November 2024 If I could give this place zero stars for the overpriced corn syrup, I would! Save yourself $20 to $25 per pound, and just go to Trader Joe's.
The quality at ALL the See's has gone downhill in the worst way possible. Not just 1 or 2 products, but ALL of their Truffles, Soft Centers, Fruit filled, nuts & chews, Assorted... nearly Everything has a significant amount of more sugar & corn syrup with Less of the real Cacao and other "real" ingredients. Here's why:
This review is in no way a reflection of the staff. They are five stars, top-notch, very friendly and helpful. The problem is they're serving up garbage.
You used to be able to taste the actual chocolate in the candy, and also the nuances in the nuts and fillings. Now all you get is 90% corn syrup and sugar. You cannot taste any of the nuances, the suttle difference, even between milk chocolate vs dark chocolate.
The price of raw cacao has shot up because of a shortage. I get it. And because of so much competition in the chocolate marketplace, I'm sure See's candy doesn't want to raise their prices to be able to provide the same level/amount/percentage of chocolate that there used to be.
BUT, omg, $30+ per pound for corn syrup and sugar? That's absolutely ridiculous. You're hardly getting any actual chocolate. And who knows what kind of food industry tricks they used on the outer chocolate shell to compensate for less cacao.
Sorry, but I'm NOT sorry I give this store and all of the See's Candies 1 star. It's a tragedy, call it an injustice, that their quality has gone significantly downhill. And I don't even think that's a reflection of the cocoa shortage, I firmly believe that this has been slowly happening over the last several years, even pre-pandemic 2020.
I remember in the 80s and 90s getting a box, and it was a little bit pricey, but still reasonable. At least you could taste everything, the separation of the nuts and the chocolate, and the filling inside. Now all you taste is sugar, pure sugar and corn syrup. Tooooo sweet.
Corporate greed has definitely taken over, and it's just a sign of the times.
As I mentioned at the top of this review, you're honestly better off getting bittersweet, or dark chocolate at Trader Joe's, or pay for the individual smaller "designer" chocolate bars at your local Big Chain grocery market. You're more than likely going to get more cocoa for the price you're paying, and also a better tasting, and "tasteable" fillings... instead of just pure sugar.

Read moreVisiting See’s Candies was truly a delightful experience. This was my first time at this location, and I couldn’t help but be enchanted by the sweet aroma of freshly made chocolate.
I came in to pick up some lollipops as gifts and, of course, selected a few pieces of chocolate for myself to enjoy. The Chelsea is my absolute favorite—it’s just perfect!
The staff was incredibly kind and even offered me a free sample, which was absolutely delicious. I can’t wait to return around the holidays to buy some beautifully packaged boxed chocolates for gifts. I’ll...
