As a regular customer, I felt the need to write this honest post about my terrible experience today.

After work, my bf and I went to grab a “quick” bite from the tavern, as usual. After arriving, we easily realized that it was crowded and there were many tourists in town for the golf tournament. We sat upstairs because downstairs was overly crowded.

As a former server, I quickly picked on how overwhelmed our server was. She apologized for things that weren’t her fault, and just stressed situations a little too much. We could see that it was crowded and busy, no need to keep saying it and using it as an excuse for your lack of organization.

We sat down and put in our drink orders, and after we sat, 3 other tables sat down, including a large party of 10. Our server brought us our drinks and then proceeded to take EVERYONE else’s orders, although they say after us. I had to flag her down to get her to take our order. How pathetic.

She took our order and continued to service every other table. An HOUR goes by, and this woman comes to tell us that one of our dishes is unavailable and that she’d bring half our order but couldn’t provide the full order. Why would only want half of what we ordered?

At this point, I am upset because why did it take an HOUR for you to find this out and THEN come tell us after we’ve waiting far too long?!! Because you were too busy helping all the other people that looked like you, first. Unfortunately, the glaring difference between us and everyone else up there was our skin color. It’s hard not to think of this as being a factor for the poor service we received. What else could truly make sense?

As I began to healthily express my concerns, she immediately interrupted me and said “I’ll go get the manager,” that we never asked for. I don’t like it when people make me out to be difficult when I’m not. She then returns with no manager and tells us we can just leave without paying.

On our way out, we decided to get the attention of the manager and explained all the discrepancies we experienced as REGULAR customers.

When I proceeded to tell our waiter about taking table orders out of the order in which they sat, she dismissed our time and said “well, they had a reservation.” Regardless, WE WERE SAT WELL BEFORE THEY ENTERED THE building!

Manager Leena was quick to apologize and rectify our situation. The poor server, Sandra/Cassandra literally told me to my face that she walked away as I was talking because she “doesn’t know how to handle trouble/strife.” We were so patient with her. What trouble could we have been, other than us being black and dissatisfied with your selectively poor service?

I’m not sure who hired her, but she certainly needs to be retrained or fired for mishandling us so badly. Because I’ve served at many restaurants, I’m always more patient due to my understanding of the work servers do, and all they put up with. This girl was just poor all around. Shout out to Leena who saved the day because we genuinely didn’t know if we’d come back, terrible service can ruin a places reputation, no matter how good the food tastes.

Cassandra/Sandra, you need to gain some conflict resolution skills. As an adult, there’s absolutely no reason for that be a hindrance that yields poor work. I hope that you never treat another table how you treated us.

Tavern, please do better with vetting your hires. She was a tragedy to have as a server, a...

This place was excellent! My wife and I found this place in an ad while searching for something when coming through Louisville from Campbellsville for some appointments and we are tired of the same old chain foods and are trying all the local offerings and this will definitely be a place we come back too.

We came in the middle of the afternoon on a Thursday so they weren’t real busy but they had a good flow of people. We got right in and seated and got our food quick. The food was fresh, prepared well and tasted great. Our waitress Brandi was excellent and extremely friendly. I couldn’t help but notice because we ate indoors out of the heat the seating is a open floor plan because it is after all a bar setting that Brandi was constantly busy. We were there little over an hour and I only seen her stop once to take a sip of something to drink. She was constantly cleaning, greeting folks when they came in, attentive to customers, checking on my wife and I, making sure everyone liked their food, filling drinks, making alcoholic drinks. The girl really puts in the work and I hope if the manager and/or owner reads this they realize the kind of employee they got there because so many don’t have that sort of work ethic these days. That young lady is certainly worth keeping around by what my wife and I seen that day and we both have managementi experience.

If I had one critique about anything it was my sandwich and it wasn’t even enough to dock a star. I love Philly cheesesteak sandwiches and I’m picky about them. The peppers and onions were cut up so tiny and stuffed on the bottom and were soggy on the bun which made them nearly impossible to taste. Flip that and put them on top, make them bigger then add the cheese. It tasted mostly of meat and cheese and hard to taste anything else.

That’s my only suggestion otherwise the food was great, the place was inviting and Brandi was excellent. We will be...

Update: We stopped in here again as we had a good experience the 2 previous times we came here.

This time was Not a Pleasant experience. We entered and waited at the bar until we were told to sit anywhere..Our "Waitress" (a White girl with blue hair) had the worst Attitude..She didn't even welcome us, she just handed us a Menu and walked away.. No Water....? It never came We were ready to Order and had to get her attention as she wanted to hang around the bar..

My Girlfriend orders then I..I ordered the BBQ Burger, I specifically said No Pickles No Mayonnaise..I had to pay an UpCharge to get Onion Rings and I asked that they be cooked longer then normal. The waitress would not even look at us while we ordered..

She walked away and came back a short time later with 2 sweet teas and told us that was all the sweet tea..it's 1pm in the afternoon and their out of sweet tea?

So with No Water we had to Ration our only glass of tea.. Meals come and we start to eat and Immediately I taste Mayonnaise and I call the waitress over and she said sorry it was the kitchens fault..and offers to replace my burger (With no Tea and weve been waiting for 20 minutes to get the 1st burger) I chose to remove the mayonnaise myself and carry on eating...I tried the Onion Rings that I had to pay extra for and they were soggy and just did not taste good so I left a full plate of Onion Rings. I finish 1/2 of my Burger and find a Pickle..in fact I found 2.. Now Pickles make me sick that's why I ordered without them, so I told the waitress and she just removes the burger from my bill but I am already feeling sick from the pickles..

The waitress had an Attitude and did nothing to fix the issues.. She could have cared less...

We...

I love The Old Louisville Tavern!!! My favorite cocktail is the Witch's Tree. (Ask for Sandra, if you'd like to hear the lore behind the Witch's Tree. She has a two-minute spiel that wraps up a story about the Louisvillian Landmark for you to enjoy.) My favorite dish is the Chicken "Dan" Fredo; it's not very Alfredo-ey, but think more of a big bowl of cream sauce with pasta, cheese, chicken, and bacon. If you're not feeling pasta, they're well known for their burgers where the BBQ Bacon Burger is a hot pick that comes with their delicious house cut fries; or the fries can be swapped out for something fun like onion rings, sweet potato fries, or mac-n-cheese. The Shrimp Po' Boy is phenomenal as well as the Old Louisville Dip. For appetizers/starters, the biggest bang for your buck is the Drunken Cheese Fries; which can be shared amongst four people. They also offer a great selection of salads, like the beautiful Asian Chicken Salad with an adventurous, delicate peanut cream sauce. If you're wanting a lite meal, go for the Pretzels & Beer Cheese Appetizer in tandem with either their French Onion Soup or their Tomato Crock. Other than that, the service is fast as well as fun! I hope you enjoy The Old Louisville Tavern as much as I do!!! Love, Sandra
