This place is an absolute GEM. Hidden along the side street of the small, quiet town of Luray, it's like something out of a movie itself. It's very old, but well maintained and the staff is wonderful. They are very helpful and know lots about the theatre and are willing to share with anyone willing to listen. They earn every donation they get. There is something to behold anywhere you set your eyes. The atmosphere is wonderful, like decades of only the best memories and fun are clinging to the walls. The strange and unique Egyptian statues and the Art Deco color schemes are so beautiful and well-kept. It makes you feel like going to the movies is SPECIAL again. There are all manner of snacks to be purchased; new and older varieties of goodies. Our popcorn was perfect, not too salty and not stale. The seats are quite old and squeak a bit, but this is quite possibly the CLEANEST theatre I have ever been inside of. My ten-year old LOVED it. He was in awe of the place and asks to go back quite often. We have to drive a ways to attend a show, but we make a day of it when we do. There is a lovely little park nearby where we can walk and burn energy and the town has cute little shops and restaurants right along the main street near the theatre. It's wonderful and I hope more people check it out and donate for...
Read moreThey get kudos for good popcorn and showing a free movie every month, but if you want a diverse selection of movies, you will have to drive about 45 minutes out of town. A few cases in point: They showed the remake of The Color Purple for TWO days last year, and other Oscar-nominated movies like American Fiction and The Holdovers never got released. Yet the movie Reagan has been playing for a month. And of course The Apprentice never made it here. An inquiry on their Facebook page about that led to the comment being deleted. Movie fans who care about quality entertainment should just drive to Harrisonburg, Winchester, or Gainesville for a better variety...
Read moreI've been to this theater before and had a fantastic experience... That being said ... tonight, after driving 40 minutes to get there, I learned they only accept cash. This led to me and my son's lingering for 3 hours for the next show after I got cash elsewhere. In addition, popcorn had a weird burnt and sweet taste none of us ate it after the first handful. I will avoid theatre room 2 in the future. Tiny seats, no cupholders... A pretty miserable couple of hours ... I will return for another try though just because the first time I went was great and I know to...
