First of all, let me just say we absolutely loved this place.
Pros: This is a very cute house located downtown Luray just off main street, so it's peaceful with its own parking area behind the house. Short walk to restaurants, ice cream, theater, and shops. The house was decorated extremely well. We had a main floor room just off the shared living room. The room was great. Very spacious, well decorated with large private bathroom. Coffee maker and tv in the room. The host puts a couple of bottles of water and soda in the mini fridge for your enjoyment at no charge. On the nice covered shady porch is a swing in one corner, small table, and chairs in the other corner. The swing was a great place to sit and chat. The hot tub in the backyard was quite enjoyable after a long day of traveling.
Cons: Could not give a 5 star overall rating due to not having hot water available for a shower. I tried to get a hot shower Saturday night, no hot water. Sunday morning, no hot water. Need to improve/upgrade the hot water heater to provide showers for up to 8 people. The morning breakfast conversation was about who was able to get a hot shower and who wasn't. The morning breakfast was a simple continental style, which is fine. However, bagels were moldy, and that is not acceptable.
The two main reasons to stay in a hotel, inn, airbnb, or wherever is to have a place to shower and rest. We got half of that.
With that said, would I stay here again? Yes! The place was super charming...
Read moreThe entire experience, from booking until check out, was near perfect! The co-owners, Kyle and his Dad (sorry, not sure of his first name) were nothing short of fantastic! Yes, it's true that there isn't anyone "on site", but when we had a small issue with the tv in our room, Kyle was knocking at our door within 15 minutes of my initial text to him. Now that is service! He was kind, professional and not at all "put off" that he needed to swing by to help us. There was an issue with paying through Booking.com (a problem with Booking.com not anyone else even though they tried to say it was a problem elsewhere) and when I contacted Kyle's dad and told him of the issue, he reassured me he had been dealing with the problem for a few months, put my mind at ease and we were able to work everythiing out. Our room, the Cavern Room, was very comfortable, spotlessly clean and the window air conditioner kept it super cool. There is also central air throughout the remainder of the house. Continental breakfast was plentiful and available between 7:30-10:30 on Friday morning. We used the hot tub in the backyard and thought that was a great bonus! It was set up so you had privacy and the "roof" was cut out so that the stars could be seen at night. It is available to all people staying at the 4 unit home. We absolutely would recommend anyone staying here and would 100% stay again if...
Read moreWe really enjoyed our stay at the Hawksbill House. The owners are a very friendly father-son duo, and the house itself is well maintained and very clean and comfortable. It also has a very good ventilation system, which moved a lot of air (usually a good sign for Covid safety) and kept the room comfortably cool, but not dry or stale as is often the case with air conditioning. The breakfast was nice too, mostly your typical continental breakfast items, but with little homemade quiches too. Our room also has a Roku attached to the TV, so we were able to watch a good movie in bed. One I’d suggest is to book at least 24 hours in advance, as we did have some issues with their online reservation system trying to book a room same-day, and they don’t have staff in building overnight. Also, as others have mentioned, sound does travel a bit in the house, so you can hear other guests at times. Didn’t bother us, but I could see it being an issue if you’re sensitive to noise or ended up sharing the house with other guests who are particularly loud. At the price point, though, I think it would be hard to beat the overall experience of staying at the Hawksbill House. I would highly recommend it if you’re looking for accommodations...
