Gathering Grounds Patisserie & Cafe — Restaurant in Luray

This was what was served on my one side of my half sandwich! All I wanted and asked for was a little more meat. So my friends sandwich which is piled up high was how it should be. And the waitress goes and asks the owner like I wasn’t mean to her but she should have just got the meat! Instead comes back to our table of 3 people and says I can get you more meat but it will be a charge lol I said really look at his and look at mine. I said never mind smh! My sad sandwich is the first photo! His is the second photo! Then the waitress comes back and stated this we can remake your sandwich. Mind you they already wana charge me for meat I should have gotten so in my world I’m thinking she gunna charge for another sandwich to prove a point? And I’m stuck with yet another disappointment! No thanks! Girl never said at no charge or anything stating as such! So I’m trying to eat my food I paid 11.25 for a sorry sandwich and her comes Karen the owner or manager not sure anyways and has on display the amount of meat on a sandwich like excuse me first off rude I’m eating! Second off idc I don’t work here and third I know my Samson’s barely any chicken salad on it! So insulting on so many levels! Then I post a review on yelp she comes back at me on there. Photos below! The private messages me on yelp and continues with her poor customer service! Never eat her this person is unstable! Then try’s to tell me I stiff the waitress like excuse me! I paid my bill and absolutely I didn’t tip cause the man of the table did! And if it had been me I wouldn’t of tipped because the service sucked! I only kept saying to the waitress I know it’s not you ! So if what Karen says is true then maybe I should be mean and say learn better customer service! Keep ur customers happy! We came here because of the good reviews on yelp. Unfortunately, it was terrible.

Let me start with the good. The staff were nice. It's quaint.

The bad:

Service was EXTREMELY slow, we weren’t acknowledged when we walked in and stood there for 10 minutes before seating ourselves at the bar and even then still waiting another 10 minutes for menus.

The food was terrible, just awful. I got the Avignon, because I love a good garden chicken salad. Well it was far from good. The chicken salad was flavorless, mushy with a weird consistency, had maybe one grape, no candied pecans and zero seasoning. It was awful.

Then came time for a dessert. Because this place says it’s a patisserie, it must have great pies right? Wrong! This was by far the worst part. When I think of a good pie, I think of buttery flakey crust and warm tart and sweet seasonal fruit with a side of ice cream. What I got was a thawed slice of freezing cold mushy peach pie with this gross cold rubbery flavorless crust. The peaches had no flavor and were very mushy and completely flavorless and did I mention it was freezing cold. If I took a bite out of that pie blind, I would have no clue what I was eating. Blek!

Lastly, the bathroom is hot, filthy and you will pray that you don't fall through the floor. Dear god clean the bathroom!!!! Ugh....

Needless to say, either the chef went on vacation and left someone with no cooking or baking experience in charge or the people visiting have no taste for good food. Yuck yuck yuck! I will not...

The food good, staff no is what my fiancé said. He's not much for reviews. In fact it bugs him if it takes me more then 5 minutes to right one.

Anyhow the GPS took us to the back entrance and so all we got were eyeballs as we walked through the restaurant to the front. We stood waiting to be seated and the waitress was friendy. We ordered water to drink because we just had finished stony man summit. When I ordered they were out of crescent rolls for my chicken salad. So I ended up with a pretzel roll. No big deal. I swapped out fries for the side and the we're nice and crispy. The sandwich was great as well. So the cook and preps get a big thumbs up.

During our meal though our server vanished, never came over to check on drinks. And I finished mine and his water. I was still thirsty and he was a tad cranky. Anyhow when she did come over after he was finished and I was just about done she offered us dessert menúes but not refills. When we asked for refills she kinda looked at us like we were crazy. We got our refill and dessert menú only for her to tell us she basically had only the pies with chocolate left and I can't stand super chocolate type deserts. So we grabbed our bill and left. Not getting what we wanted and a server who doesn't understand hydration was enough.

Overall if you can be patient with the wait staff I believe the food may be worth it for some. As for us chances are we probably won't be back there because we travel to different areas and normally don't...
