The Inn on Mackinac elevates the experience of vacation and relaxation to an exceptional level. Upon entering through a trellis entryway, adorned with a diverse array of vibrant flowers, one is immediately immersed in the beauty of the front garden. The air is filled with a heavenly scent emanating from a wall of lilacs in shades of purple and white. The front staff are affable and efficient, ensuring a pleasant stay. Throughout the day, guests can enjoy a selection of beverages, including coffee, hot chocolate, and an assortment of fruits from the breakfast room. The continental breakfast, served from 7:30 to 10:30 am, is satisfying and plentiful. The carpet, soft and comforting, provides relief for our weary feet after a day of exploration by foot and bicycle around the entire island. The room numbers, uniquely inscribed in ceramic, contribute to the inn's Victorian charm, transporting guests to a bygone era. Our own room, number 309, boasts a private terrace complete with a deck table and four chairs. The sheets are pristine and crisp, while the pillows offer a cloud-like softness. Although one can discern muffled voices from adjacent rooms and the occasional creaking of the floor above, these sounds only add to the inn's charm. They blend harmoniously with the distinctive auditory tapestry of the island, including the rhythmic clickety-clack of horses' hooves on the streets. Notably, the second floor houses a delightful common room, and its accompanying terrace grants a panoramic view of the front garden, perfect for people-watching or admiring the breathtaking sunrises and sunsets of Mackinac Island. In terms of proximity, The Inn is conveniently situated: a mere 8-10 minutes from dock 1, 10-12 minutes from downtown, approximately 15 minutes from the boardwalk, 16-18 minutes from the Grand Hotel, 5-6 minutes from Fort Mackinac, 3-4 minutes from St. Anne's Church, 5 minutes from Doud's market, 8-10 minutes from the golf course, 10-15 minutes from Mission Pointe Resort, and 20-25 minutes from The Arch when ascending 207 steps.

Check in was quick and simple, as was check out. Our room was quite small, which was really the only downside, but it's kind of to be expected in an old Victorian home. The porch was beautiful. It rained a lot on our 2 night stay, but we still took advantage of the porch for viewing. The flowers out front were absolutely gorgeous. There was a room with games and a table that we frequented with our children. We even met some other guests who hung out with us and enjoyed playing with our children, which was so lovely. The cookies at 7pm and the coffee/tea available at all times was a perk. I was impressed with the continental breakfast. I saw mixed reviews on it, but we went late September 2022 and they had tons of different cereals and milk (single serve cereal containers), Bobs Red Mill GF oatmeal, a variety of pastries and muffins (including GF blueberry muffins), Greek yogurt, hard boiled eggs, bananas and apples. They also had coffee, tea, and orange, apple and cranberry juices. I was surprised at the variety they had and it was nice to not have to go out for breakfast each morning. The pool was so neat - it was stainless steel and had a small waterfall. My kids loved it and we were the only ones in it when we went. The only reason I wouldn't stay again would be that the room was really too small with 2 small children, but if it hadn't rained so much it wouldn't have been a big deal.

If you want room to move around when you are in your room, be careful which room you book. We stayed in room 506 and I have never stayed in such a tiny room. The feel you get is one of an old military person staying in this room who has hung up personal pictures. Floral wall paper on everything except the ceiling was a definite surprise. The queen sized bed is pretty tightly fit into the room. Both sides barely have any from to walk beside the bed. In fact, the one side is a slanted wall, so you can't stand straight up while moving along side of the bed. The A/C kept us very cool during the night. The fan speed is separate from the thermostat, so make sure you lift the lid on the fan and set it to your desired speed. The bathroom is very small. Keep that in mind. It's a standing shower only. One funny thing is this room is directly across from the elevator, so if you take the elevator to 506, one step out of the elevator and you are at your room. The cookies from the front desk after 7p.m. are really good. They come in pairs, so if you have more than two people, I think they would let you grab two boxes. Very friendly staff and overall really enjoyed the experience. The view outside the window isn't fantastic, but that's a minor detail in my book. The bed was extremely hard though.

Lovely Accommodations! Gorgeous, homey and perfect location! Room 412 had a perfect view for my standards. Waking up to hooves (my favourite sound in the world) and to open my eyes and have my own little view at the lake was completely fulfilling. 🥰 Bucket list check mark! Breakfast was PERFECTLY acceptable! No meat, but plenty of food to get your day started. And an awesome bonus that they leave the fruit basket available all day! I do have a tiny complaint of the room - the shower stall is unnecessarily TINY and DARK. I’m talking claustrophobic. I couldn’t bathe. Lol. I didn’t even want to take a photo of it. A bit of a let down considering the hotel is simply dreamy. The bathroom was DEFINITELY CLEAN, but a real yucky light brownish paint colour made it feel grimy. It was not matching the rest of the hotel style even remotely. A cheap glass corner shower and a fresh coat of light coloured paint would make an incredible difference guys! I can’t wait to come back! But I will request a room with a real shower. Ha.

I stayed here with my 13-year-old son and my mother who is in her late 60s. We all three enjoyed our stay here. The building is beautiful, the room was large, the beds were comfy, the location was great, the breakfast was decent, the spa pool was awesome, and the 24-hour coffee, tea, and hot chocolate was very nice. It's an easy walk from the ferries and into town. Bike rental options are across the street and also like two doors down. Our only complaint was that the floors in the room above us were sooooo creaky. I sleep with earplugs and they drowned out the horses clopping by and the ship horns my son said he heard, but even through my ear plugs I heard the creaky floor overhead! It would also be super nice if they had refrigerators or couches in the rooms that are that big. We could've used both. But I would stay here again for sure if the price was right. Recommended.
