My 16 year old son rented a bike from this shop and was totally taken advantage of! He was charged $75 for a âbrokenâ hydraulic line that was not inspected until after he left the shop and was literally chased down and made return to pay for damages that he nor people with him can figure out how such damages would have occurred. When contacted, the shop owner was extremely rude and even admitted that no one gave instructions on how to use the brakes on the bike which he claimed was very easy to break and happened often. Which by the way, my son said the shop owner twisted the hydraulic lines and said, âsee this is what happens to cause them to break.â Which could very well be what had broken them! After reading some very similar reviews on this shop, I would say steer clear from this bike rental shop, it seems to be a place of no integrity that preys on unsuspecting tourist! My son worked 2 jobs to pay for this trip! And today he learned a lesson in watching out for Hyenas!
Response to the owners response: If you had really checked your so called security cameras you would indeed see that my son is in fact a 16 year old minor therefore wasnât old enough to sign the paperwork! And if you must know, his form of payment was a prepaid card not a credit card! And if you actually checked your so called security you would have seen my son and his cousin return the bike to the staff member then going to pay for their ride and after making payment leaving the store. Not Running away as you accuse!! And I could easily give you a hundred character witnesses stating exactly how responsible my son actually is. And all anyone has to do to find out YOUR character, Sir, is to read your customer reviews on both your goggle page and Facebook page!!! And just so you know, my husband did in fact call and speak with your âmechanicâ that indeed said the children were NEVER given any instructions on how to care for your very delicate rental. Which my son verified when I spoke to him concerning...
Read moreMy dad, brother his girlfriend and I recently went up to the island to purchase used bikes from Mackinac Island Bike Shop. My dad had rented from them last fall and had talked to the owner Ira about the possibility of buying bikes in the spring and then had received detailed emails about prices on the specific bike we wanted and the specific start date of the sale. We drove through the night to get there early on the day of the sale and when we arrived we were told by Ira that they had sold a lot of bikes the previous day-(before the start of the "sale", wish we would have known)-so they didn't even have enough of the bikes for us and other customers, and on top of that, the bikes we had been looking to purchase were $200 more expensive then what he had clearly indicated in the email. When my dad inquired why the bikes were more expensive then he had originally stated, Ira acted like he didn't know what he was talking about, and when my dad showed him the email with said prices laid out, Ira stumbled through some poor excuse of saying it was a mistake. He then proceeded to not want to help us at all or have anything to do with us. Having just drove five hours we ended up buying the last of the cheaper bikes but did not get anymore because we were not going to pay the extra $200 per bike for the next model for the sole reason that he pulled a bait and switch on us and we didnt want to give this CON man any more money. I know he deliberately mislead us and others about a great deal, solely to get people up there to SNAKE his way into some sales. If you rent here be aware of the type of person that you are dealing with. You can respond if you want Ira, but you know...
Read moreI literally don't want to give them a star at all. Worst experience and the sad part is this is the one of the first bike shops people see when they get off the ferries, when there are other rental places with really helpful and knowledgeable employees. I encourage you to read below and use any other rental place, expect this one.
Myself, husband and two kids brought our bikes over from the main land, howevet, my five year old got tired very quickly, so we stopped here to rent a carrier to attach to my husbands bike. When I first walked up to the place both employees looked over at me and went back to talking to each other. I waitem till they looked back over at me and neither said anything, so I had to just go ahead and ask for the rental to which I was informed that they could attach the carrier to my husbands bike. After we brought all four of our bikes over to wait for them to attach, the guy tells us it won't work and they have nothing else for us to rent. The owner then came over to rudely confirm that what the other guy said was correct. So I was trying to get my kids turned around and check with another place, before I could even get my kids back on their bikes the owner was rudely telling me to get out of the way. As we were leaving we passed by another one of his employees who was helping someone tighten a loose bolt on his bike and the owner came over yelling at the other customer saying this was not a repair shop and needed.to leave. I said to the owner that he was rude and he proceeded to yell back at me again. BEWARE!!!
Went down to the Bike Barn and the guys there were great and helped us get a carrier for our daughter and enjoy the...
