Ordered the carnitas nachos appetizer and they were absolutely disgusting. The meat was so dry it looked like it had been sitting out in a crockpot for hours. The chips were extremely oily and i realized after a couple bites that it was because the cheese had curdled and separated. It wasn’t just my meal though... the bacon on my boyfriend’s burger was practically rubber. Couldn’t tell if it was undercooked or just bad meat. We stopped eating, but wanted to finish our drinks at least before leaving. We couldn’t even do this because we both had sudden urges to get sick (and we did). I wanted to report this to our waitress and couldn’t get the words out before rushing to get sick again. Needless to say, we will not be returning and STRONGLY discourage anybody from eating their poisonous food. I see a lot of good reviews on this restaurant so I’m not sure what happened to our meals but making two people sick after just a couple bits is extremely concerning.
Not to mention the doors were open during 20* weather with snow.
edit to respond to the owner Apologies for not being able to alert the waitress in that moment. We were busy throwing up. This happened yesterday 10.25.20 and we contacted the restaurant earlier today...
Read moreVery delicious whitefish! We sampled the smoked whitefish chowder, broiled whitefish, fried green tomatoes and the peach cobbler. The whitefish chowder was hands down the best soup I’ve ordered anywhere. Truly amazing flavors and savory texture. The broiled whitefish was also very good, and it was priced nearly $12 less than other restaurants. The fried green tomatoes unfortunately were not fresh and seemed to be warmed over, not freshly fried. The complimentary sauce was very good, and I’m sure if the tomatoes had been fresh they would have been as well. Disappointed they weren’t! The peach cobbler was pretty good, but my wife and I both agreed that it seemed as though they made the dish with salt instead of sugar! It was overwhelmingly salty and just wasn’t that good because of it. Could have just not been my taste, but it was so salty it really did seem like a mistake. Again had it been made correctly, I’m sure it would have been fabulous. So overall, 4 stars for very good food, but a few small issues that keep that last star off. The smoked whitefish chowder made this place a must-eat however, and I certainly would...
Read moreWe went to Seabiscuit Cafe on our first night on Mackinac Island. We had come over on a later ferry, check into our hotel down the street, and headed in to see if we could get a table. After just a short wait we got a nice table in the dining room by the bar. The bartenders served our table as well as worked the bar and they did a really nice job, working as a team to make sure that we were well served.
We started with two of their signature drinks. The Old Fashion was one of the best ones we tried on the trip.
For dinner, I ordered Fish and Chips which are made with white fish from the great lakes. The batter was light and crispy without being oily. The tartar sauce was good and added to the fish. The fries were ok, but I am not a huge fry guy anyway. My wife got the fish tacos which were also delicious.
The setting at Seabiscuit is themed on horse racing and the movie was showing on one of the TVs. It does make you feel like every day is derby day, and it was a nice place to have a...
