!! Parking was very difficult here for my friends and I, so wanted to share my learnings (learned the hard way) to hopefully help others.
Came here on a Saturday noon and the surrounding areas were packed with cars + people driving impatiently.
There is a parking lot near the entrance that gets filled quickly, but you can wait for a spot to open up, for $3/hour.
A block down the street there is also a parking lot that charges $15/day... this one was completely full by the time we arrived ~11:30am, and a couple cars were backed up waiting at the entrance for an opening.
Between the 1st parking lot and the 2nd, along PCH, there is a stretch of sidewalk where lots of cars park and treat as street parking. Do not park here unless you don't mind risking getting a ticket. When I was there 11:30am, most of the cars along the street had a ticket on their windshield. By the time I came back 1:30pm, a fresh set of cars had gotten new tickets.
TIP: I ended up finding an area with easier (and legal) street parking across the street and a bit back (i.e. make a U-turn and drive past the parking lot entrance on your left a bit). It's 7min walk from the beach and worth it. If you need GPS, type in "Malibu Coast Animal Hospital" as a reference point... the extra street parking is in that area. It's still going to be busy and full on a weekend, but from my experience, there were definitely more openings and it was less stressful while waiting because the lanes are wider. Also no time limit as long as you don't park overnight (parking is only...
Obscure beach park that’s usually less crowded than beaches alongside of Pacific Coast Highway. Unlike the other beaches, this one surrounds the mouth of Malibu Creek. So it combines some oceanfront surf with a kind of wildlife estuary experience! It’s possible to hike and swim around the sand bars, tho with caution for tidal surges and riptides! A trail continues beyond the end of Cross Creek Place to Malibu Point, where the public beach begins. Depending on conditions, surfing may be possible from Malibu Point, to the opposite side of the inlet, tho more likely at Surfrider Beach! Restrooms are provided in the outhouse next to the Adamson House Museum. Paid parking is available either at Cross Creek Place, or beside the Adamson House. Free parking may be found along PCH by the Malibu Pier and alongside...
Read moreMalibu Lagoon State Beach is one of my favorite places to film Brown Pelicans. You can spot them here and during breeding season you get to see their breeding colors. Its pretty cool. Its a place I have visited many times and talked about it on my youtube channel. I highly recommend it. If you love to surf, it is also popular with surfers. They are fun to watch. I would suggest going through the back lagoon parking and walking to the beach. You will encounter some amazing birds like Cormorants and if you are lucky, the resident Osprey. If you like Seagulls you'll find a variety chilling on the beach as well as crows. It can be a hit or miss in terms on when it is busy but I especially like it when it is not. It allows me watch the...
