Gabrielle and the Island mystery was dope! 5⭐ (Updated after our second visit)
we recently tried the Kidnapping which brought this from a 5 star to a 3 star. Sam, our group host was kinda awkward and standoffish, didn't really help us with advice, just told us what to do in the form of a question.
He advised us a few time that our clues that we found were not needed at this time, but never told us when we did need them again...which left us all very confused. Also, the blood viles used in this escape room were leaking, stained my hands and my clothes. Not really cool. A lot of the puzzles and clues in this room dont really flow together and theres and absurd amount of combination locks. Its honestly ALL combination locks tbh. EXCEPT one part where you have to put a sheet of paper together and we were advised that the pieces should make a regular sheet of paper... But it definitely didn't. And nothing in the room indicated what we were looking for on the paper. So not only were we lost on the papers assembly, but also the message gathered after the pieces assembled.
Theres a lot of red herrings and poor design flaws, that make it hard to differentiate what was in play, and not in play, and since this is just a remodeled old office space, theres things in the room that are highly questionable.
The Kidnapping just demonstrated how little effort went into assembling these individual rooms.
It just really felt like a waste of money an time...
No one in our group really enjoyed this experience and it was so off putting that its probably our last time going to breakout... there are no real stories leading from one clue to the next, the story bits just have numbers written to the side or something so the clue to the puzzle is like stamped next to unnecessary and unused storyline bs. Theres no multi-room games, the staff is solid mids, and the clues and puzzles feel made up by someone who "watched a video about it once" type vibes.
Theres not a lot psychological or brain teasing aspects about the puzzles, theres no story being told. Like the break between the puzzles and the "story" is like watching Sherlock Holmes, but all the mystery and puzzles are pulled from kids books and old newspaper puzzles... Its pretty crappy how broken a lot of the themes are from my experience and theres little to no ingenuity. Nothing original, nothing mind-blowing...
Our first experience was pretty cool but also really low quality, but the puzzles were fun to figure out... Our second experience really drove it home just how bare minimum this place is, and for the price, thats just insane... The biggest puzzle here is why I would want to pay that kinda money again for cheap set designs, bad clues, silly unrelated stories, and forgetable...
Read moreI recently did the island escape room and it was one of the worst if not the worst escape room that I’ve done. To start, the room was very poorly lit and it made reading clues nearly impossible. The only place you could read the clues were in this tiny area that only two people could fit at. It made the whole experience unnecessarily annoying. Second, the puzzles were counterintuitive and not well designed. There was one puzzle that required you to use binoculars to look at a specific part on a wall. However, the binoculars were very bad and we all tried and failed to see the number and had to have the worker literally tell us the code after wasting 10 minutes. Another example of a bad puzzle was a full 10 word crossword puzzle that we had to solve. There were many slips of paper around the room that just had words on them and we had to try to figure out the crossword puzzle with no clues whatsoever. After wasting another 10 minutes on trying to solve it, one of my teammates thankfully noticed that there were 5 darker squares on the crossword puzzle that corresponded to a letter lock. But this time wouldn’t have been wasted if you could actually see the darker squares from the start. The final complaint about this escape room is that during the last part of the escape room, you unlock a TINY room that only two to three people can fit in to. All of the remaining puzzles revolve around the clues found in that room. With 5 minutes left on the clock, myself and two other teammates were left outside the tiny room with nothing to do besides twiddle our thumbs while the clock ticked down. It was a very bad escape room experience. As someone who had done at least 10 escape room and designs them, my team used 5 hints and still was very far away from escaping. Definitely would not recommend this escape room to anyone. You’d be better off going to a different St. Louis escape room. I will say that the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our game-master did...
