Food: Sought out because of Ian Froeb's mention on Top 100. Rangoon (if you like warm cream cheese rolls, order) & spring rolls both subpar. Red & green curry incredibly watery, but good flavor. Pad basil w/ pork probably best of the bunch, though green beans basically raw & very peppery. Wonton soup bad....bok choy mush. Chive dumplings fine, lots of unnecessary lettuce. Everything quite salty. Side of sticky rice was gelatinous blob, inedible. No signifiers of spice level anywhere on website or GrubHub menu. Perhaps I've been spoiled with Thai in Chicago, but very underwhelmed. Flavors didn't resemble any thai I've had in Chicago & San Diego...and not in a good way.
Service: I hate to do this in the current climate, but I was quite disappointed with the service I received here. No one answered the phone when I tried calling multiple times midday during lunch hours, so I placed a $100+ order on GrubHub for pickup. I noted a few substitutions per the website menu that I didn't see on Grubhub. For example, I wrote "if available" on a couple items, and asked for a side or rice noodles instead of rice. NONE of these requests were honored, not even the rice noodles which were certainly available, and I was not contacted by the restaurant in any way. When I arrived, I was told the website menu was out of date and they did not have a paper menu to provide. So the only way to see an accurate menu is through Grubhub?? When I asked if I could swap coconut juice for soda (had written in thai iced tea), I was met with a stutter. Moreover, the employee was not wearing a mask which made me wary. No notes regarding COVID19 on Instagram or main website. Will not be returning. Please update your website, or at least your...
Read moreI'm spoiled by living in the City near South Grand and having my pick of many fabulous Thai restaurants. During a recent trip to the burbs, and craving Thai food, I took a chance on RTB based on the many favorable reviews. RTB left me disappointed. First, while the waiter was friendly enough, he mumbled, did one thing at a time, never brought me the wine I ordered and although there were only a few other tables in the place, seemed overwhelmed. He was obviously never trained properly. With respect to the food, I had the crab rangoon for an appetizer, and it was actually really good. They use a crispy spring roll shell versus the typical thick and crunchy deep fried version. For my main course I had the Pad Thai with chicken. I could tell immediately the cook had not effectively cleaned the cooking surfaces, as my food tasted like char. Unfortunately, that was the only flavor it really had. The presentation was nice (minus the black egg) and the portion was more than enough, but I could not enjoy it. To add insult to injury, the prices here are not inexpensive. I should have sent the food back, but I really did not care to eat anything else at RTB. I will not be back, and do...
Read moreWe are usually extremely easy going when it comes to reviews, but our first and last takeout from this place needs to brought up. First of all, on the take out order an item was left out completely. But instead of calling back, and hey had our number in their point of sale system, I had to call upon driving 20 minutes Home to see the item was missing. So while in the phone they even said, we forgot your crab Rangoon. No solution, like we’ll get some over to you with one of our delivery options. Just silence. Then pointed out the chicken satay didn’t have peanut sauce. And the chicken itself was way over cooked. The rice container was barely half full for the curry dish. Again I pointed this out on the phone and there was no suggestion for remedy from them. I said really nothing else to say? He suggested he take our name down and maybe they could do something next time we were there. I suggested maybe chopping half of our $74 bill. (Yeah, that’s what you get for $74 in the pictures) he said he couldn’t do that. Conversation and relationship with the restaurant is done. Except for my review on the...
