My experience at Best Buy revealed a toxic culture that thrives on greed, favoritism, and exploitation. Managementâs approach was not only unethical but actively harmful to both employees and customers.
Predatory Sales Tactics: Vulnerable customersâfamilies who were clearly struggling financially, often earning less than $10,000 a yearâwere deliberately targeted with misleading financing options like Progressive Leasing. Customers were lied to about interest rates, which can exceed 100%, and were misled into thinking these options would benefit them. These tactics were pushed by both employees and management to meet sales quotas, showing a complete disregard for the long-term harm done to these customers. Such practices arenât just unethicalâthey could have serious legal repercussions.
Exploitation of Employees: Employees werenât treated any better. Seasonal staff like me were given the worst hours and were treated as disposable, no matter how hard we worked. Management showed blatant favoritism, giving preferential treatment to certain employees while overburdening others. I was often left to handle physically demanding tasks aloneâlike loading 300lb freezersâdue to a lack of communication and respect from leadership.
Targeting Employees: Management didnât just target customersâthey targeted employees too. Certain staff were unfairly singled out, given no support, and treated poorly compared to others who were clearly favored. This favoritism created a toxic environment that made it clear hard work and dedication didnât matter unless you were part of their inner circle.
Unprofessional Termination: After enduring these conditions, I was let go without any noticeâcompletely ghosted. There was no explanation, no acknowledgment of my contributions, and no effort to treat me with basic professionalism. Seasonal employees were treated as expendable, regardless of how essential they were to operations.
Inadequate Leadership and Training: Leadership consistently failed to provide proper training or guidance. Instead of teaching new employees how to succeed, management either ignored them or relied on other staff to fill in the gaps. Even long-time managers often struggled to handle basic customer issues, which made it clear that incompetence was tolerated as long as sales goals were met.
A Culture of Greed: At its core, Best Buy prioritizes profits above all else. Customers are viewed as numbers to be manipulated, and employees are treated as tools to achieve those numbers. This relentless focus on short-term gains over ethical practices and employee well-being has created a culture that is unsustainable and damaging to everyone involved.
Final Thoughts: My time at Best Buy exposed how far this company is willing to go to exploit both its customers and employees for profit. From predatory sales tactics to blatant favoritism and unprofessional treatment of staff, the company has failed on every level.
Until leadership prioritizes integrity, transparency, and respect, Best Buy will remain an unethical and toxic place to...
Read moreUpdate: They have lost all of our future business. Best Buy never even bothered ordering the second computer. They had us order a /different/ computer that was $200 more which they only comped $100 of and then they refused to comp us the $300 warranty even though we purchased the warranty for the computer they never replaced. âââââââ
Bad service. We went in to buy my husband a computer for summer. We bought a really nice one that they had ship in. Once we got it, it was broken within a week. We took it back in (Luckily we got the warranty). They told my husband he could buy the part to fix it himself for $100, pay them to fix it in house for $200 OR they could ship it off to get fixed for free covered by the warranty.
We wanted the computer for summer so shipping it off was painful but we were told weâd get it back in a few weeks so we did so.
They told us that there was no fixing the computer and they offered us a replacement. Then we got silence for three weeks. My husband couldnât call the Manhattan Ks location to find out any information because the number listed only sends you to the national location.
We live out of town and had to go INTO the location to talk to anyone about what was going on. Once there, they told him that they had to get the computer shipped to the main Best Buy location and once it got there it would need to be shipped to the Manhattan location before we could get it.
It has been over a month and we not only donât have a computer, we donât even have a tracking number. We have not been communicated with and I am very unhappy. This is the most weâve ever spent on a computer and until now we have always bought from Best Buy. If this isnât fixed soon they will loose all of our future business.
Supposably it will take 2-3 weeks /after/ we finally get a tracking number before we can go pick up...
Read moreFor me, Best Buy is more than just a store; it's a destination. I consistently have a positive experience there, which is why I'm giving it a full five stars. From the moment I walk in, I appreciate the sheer variety of products. Whether I'm looking for a new TV, browsing the latest laptops, or just checking out the smart home gadgets, Best Buy has it all. The sheer selection can be a bit overwhelming, but I find it exciting. One of the things that sets Best Buy apart for me is the knowledgeable staff. While I've occasionally encountered someone less informed, more often than not, the employees I've interacted with have been genuinely helpful. They're able to answer my questions, offer recommendations, and explain the differences between various products without making me feel pressured to buy. This expertise is invaluable, especially when making a significant purchase. I also appreciate the competitive pricing. Best Buy frequently has sales and offers price matching, which gives me confidence that I'm getting a good deal. Knowing I can often get the best price without having to shop around endlessly is a huge plus. The store layout is generally easy to navigate, and I appreciate the clearly marked sections. It makes it easy to find what I'm looking for, even in a large store. And the availability of in-store pickup for online orders is incredibly convenient. While I'm sure some people have had negative experiences, my personal interactions with Best Buy have been consistently positive. The combination of a wide selection, helpful staff, competitive pricing, and a convenient shopping experience makes Best Buy my go-to store for all my tech needs. It's a place I genuinely enjoy visiting, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for electronics,...
