Having been on true Ghost Tours in Charleston, Savannah and Asheville, we were looking forward to this tour because of the local area's long and rich history and pirate lore. Unfortunately, the tour is more a "story-telling tour" focusing on tales from other areas rather than any reported local "paranormal" activity. With the exception of one stop at a home rumored to have the footsteps of a young girl continuously reappear and in the parking lot of a supposedly haunted theater, the majority of the tour was spent in overly long stops along the waterfront where the guide told stories about Blackbeard and events which had occurred elsewhere in the Outer Banks.

The tour area covers only a couple of blocks near the waterfront, and most of the tour time is spent standing at the dock/walkway overlooking the water. The guide was a nice lady, but she was not particularly engaging and some stories went on a bit too long - we began to lose interest.

The company advertises, "Our tour is unique from others in the area because we are equipped with EMF detectors and try to limit our group size to 20". No EMFs were used during our tour.

This is not a tour for folks who have an interest in hearing about or potentially experiencing local paranormal activity. It could be entertaining for folks who want to hear some general pirate stories about the...

Decided to take the tour while there on vacation. We had Stacey for a guide and she had so much to share! Her past experience during her time with The Lost Colony show offered many of her own personal ghost stories as she told us the history of Roanoke, Blackbeard, Theodosia Burr, Brenda Joyce Holland and more! Stacey herself was not only knowledgeable but personable and an engaging storyteller. I overheard a member of our group telling their tour companions that had she had Stacey teaching her history in school she might actually have not only paid attention, but enjoyed the subject. We were surprised at the end of our tour when we got to chat with Stacey one on one and she shared that this was only her second tour. None of us would have ever guessed! A wonderful time was had by all. Our group’s EMF meter did go off a few times during the tour, and though we didn’t see any apparitions while there, we felt the tour was worth our time. Attached are a few photos of the building where we had the most EMF activity. We were encouraged to take pictures especially of windows to see what we might capture. Thank you to Stacey and OBX...

My husband and I had such a wonderful time on our tour with Lara — it truly was a highlight of our trip! A few things we especially loved:

There was plenty of parking nearby, which made everything super convenient.

The walk itself was beautiful — the scenery added so much atmosphere and made Lara’s stories come to life in a really special way.

And Lara... what a gem! We absolutely adored her. Her warmth, personality, and thoughtful approach to storytelling made the whole experience feel personal and memorable. She shared not only fascinating historical details but also her own perspective and experiences, which really enriched the tour.

One thing to note: these tours dive pretty deep into local history. From the area's origins to OBX legends and lesser-known stories, there's a lot to take in — and we found it all fascinating. But if you're not particularly into history, just know that this tour leans that way (in the best possible sense, if...

This activity is not worth $20 an adult or $18 for a child. It is an interesting short walk through the lost colony along the waterfront (in the summer the sunset is beautiful), but they just tell you ghost stories about different places along the outer banks. I was expecting people in costume, more props or more spookiness for that amount of money. They should just call it a walking tour and charge people based on donations. There are so many free historical tours all over the state, this felt like a tourist trap. Our docent did a good job, hence the two stars, but as good as she was, the cost just didn't seem justified. Do yourself a favor and look for free or cheaper tours of other establishments in the outer banks. This was a huge let down. The ghost meter they provided was cute, but seemed rigged. If you do go, bring a light jacket, bring cash for a trip and cash for picking up a candy or snack at the movie theater which is cash only.

A very fun and intriguing activity. Our guides were Lara and Rowan who was training. We had gotten there quite early and the other party coming was going to be quite late, during this time they kept conversation and talked to us about the area and were extremely friendly and kind. The tour was a mix of history and spooky tales that had everyone glancing at each other suspiciously (in the best way) and even if the stories weren’t good the scenery would have made the trip worth it. It was a great time and the guides did a fantastic job. Recommend this tour for anyone interested in some local and spooky history, including local tales of blackbeard
