Black Rock was another beach from the north-west Maui coastline where we had very clear water and the snorkeling was good. The water was clearer in the bay and less clear when we went round the Black Rock corner over the small cove with the shallow reef. Out there the waves hitting the northern end rocks were creating strong enough currents over the shallow water area and lowered the water visibility. We snorkel about two hours and we saw three turtles of medium size and many fish. The water area was a little beat crowded. On my snorkeling marking scale in that day the score for Black Rock were 4 from a maximum of 5 point. In better snorkeling conditions I thing that the score can be a 4.5.
We were surprised and very disappointed by the uncleaned beach on it far right corner (quite near the fence of Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa complex). Also I had an unpleasant experience with the people from Black Rock Watersport Center located on the right extremity of the beach. I wanted to rinse my snorkeling mask in one of their barrels with fresh water that were in front of their kiosk especially for rinsing their snorkel rented equipment. The lady in charge told me that there is their technical area and I cannot rinse my mask in their barrel. I said OK and I moved 3 meters away and I wait in row about 10 minutes at the beach shower to rinse...
Read moreBlack Rock Beach, right by the Sheraton Maui Resort, is a must-visit spot in Maui, especially if you’re looking for adventure! We parked at the Sheraton’s parking structure, which is $6 per hour—a fair price considering the prime location. After an exhilarating experience cliff jumping off the famous Black Rock (Pu’u Keka’a) into the clear, calm waters, we decided to grab lunch at the Sheraton’s poolside bar.
The view from the poolside bar was absolutely stunning, and the food was delicious! Although there’s a 19% automatic service charge for any food or drinks, and prices are a bit higher (as expected), it was well worth it for the picturesque setting. It’s the perfect spot to relax and enjoy great food after a fun, adrenaline-filled experience on the cliffs.
In addition to cliff jumping, the snorkeling here is fantastic—swimming with sea turtles and tropical fish just added to the magic of the day. The beach itself is beautiful, and we caught the ceremonial torch lighting and cliff diving demonstration in the evening, which gave the whole experience a special cultural touch.
Highly recommend stopping by for some cliff jumping, snorkeling, or just to enjoy the amazing atmosphere at Black Rock Beach and the Sheraton...
Read moreBlack Rock Beach is a must-visit if you’re in Maui! Located on the north end of Ka’anapali Beach, this spot offers a unique mix of beautiful scenery, clear waters, and exciting snorkeling. The beach itself has soft golden sand, and the water is incredibly clear, perfect for spotting tropical fish and even a few sea turtles if you’re lucky.
The real highlight here, though, is Black Rock itself. People come from all over to try cliff jumping from the lava rock – it’s a bit of a thrill, but also feels safe since the water below is deep. Even if you’re not jumping, it’s fun to watch others take the plunge. Snorkeling around Black Rock is also fantastic, with vibrant coral and plenty of marine life.
The beach can get a bit crowded, especially in the afternoon, but the energy is great, and everyone is having a good time. It’s best to get here early if you want a good spot, or come later to catch the sunset, which is absolutely stunning with the rock formation silhouetted against the sky. Whether you’re here for the snorkeling, cliff jumping, or just to relax on the sand, Black Rock Beach is an unforgettable...
