Teppan-yaki Dan — Restaurant in Maui

We showed up 10 mins late for our reservation. Big mistake, or was it? Hostess couldn’t have been ruder. “You’re late” she greeted us. Yes, I replied with a sigh and smile we got lost trying to find our way through the property. She says ok well let me see if they can still accommodate you. We follow we over to the closed door and are ordered to wait while she checks with the chef. Nope, we are quickly turned away but not before she got a few more gabs in. First we were told we should’ve heeded the text (never sent through open table) that we needed to be ON time. Seems they only have a 5 min grace policy. Also, we were told that we should’ve valeted the car and not walked from our hotel next door. All this is so curious as I had to reach out to the restaurant twice the day before the reservation and none of this was mentioned in advance.

The hostess staff could not have been more dismissive, condescending, or rude. We’ve always loved the Sheraton and LOVE teppan-yaki this place was set to be a home run but we left to find a restaurant who wanted our business. Easy enough these days. 3 min walk to Maui brew co we had a lovely dinner with view.

May 1st, 2024 - we read mixed reviews about this place. We decided to go and see for pur selfs. We had a great time and the food was out standing. With that said, here is a break down. We have been to about 12 different type of these restaurants and they all are different in there own way, but that makes them good.

There are only 5 tables, the restaurant is small, there was only one server for the entire place. But, the normal for a server is 7 to 11 tables, so 5 tables is not horrible and at 9 per table sat at different times is manageable. From what I saw, there is about 3 chefs there, personable, funny and fun they make the experience entertaining. My wife daughter and I were on our familymoon, and our chef made it a blast. The food was excellent. We had steak and lobster and my wife had the catch of the day. All was cooked perfectly. We gave the location 5 stars. If your thinking about eating here, don't waste your money. My wife and I just finished a very disappointing experience. This restaurant is reservation only so why did I wait 55 minutes from the time I was seated to the time the cook showed up to start cooking? On numerous occasions I considered helping myself to more water as I sat with an empty glass for extended periods of time and I had to remind the waitstaff to bring me the steamed rice that came with my meal. When you spend $40+ on an entree, you expect better service than what you would receive at other places. Food was average, I have no complaints about the food, though nothing to rave about.
