Absolutely incredible crew - highly recommend! I scheduled a class for my father and I before our trip to Maui by contacting Jose. Jose answered a lot of my questions and gave me good information, as well as getting me scheduled for our class so we could start shortly after we arrived on the island. He made sure to talk to me about things that we may need to do ahead of time, which was very thoughtful and lead to the whole experience going very smoothly. The instructor for our three-day class was Annika, who is extremely patient, knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. We were able to go through the class with lots of review of the online material, and get to learn all the skills hands-on and make sure we are comfortable with them. She made sure that we were competent and could do the skills, and understood what was going on and the reasons behind different things, as well as sharing a lot of practical knowledge with us that would've otherwise taken us several dives to learn. While going out in the ocean for the open-water dives, she kept a close eye on us and encouraged us to work together well as buddies, and taught us how to be good buddies as well. The open-water dives themselves were not only great for learning, but it was incredible to see all the different creatures underwater as well as the seascape. She was extremely knowledgeable of all the different creatures down below and pointed a lot out, including turtles, flounder, an octopus, and lots of very cool fish! As good stewards of the ocean, we also collected any trash while down there and had a great time learning. Once the course came to an end, I was actually sad not to get to return the next day to do it all over again, but will definitely be scheduling some guided dives with the Black Rock Scuba crew...

I recently had the pleasure of diving with Black Rock Scuba, led by the exceptional Dive Master Jose. This experience was nothing short of amazing! From the moment we set out, Jose’s extensive knowledge of the area was evident. He provided a thorough briefing on the dive sites and the local sea life, ensuring we were well-prepared and excited for what lay ahead.

The underwater world we explored was teeming with vibrant sea life, but the highlight for me was the abundance of sea turtles. Seeing these majestic creatures up close was a dream come true, and Jose’s keen eye ensured we didn’t miss a single one. His expertise made the dive both educational and thrilling as he pointed out various species and shared fascinating facts about them.

Safety and comfort were top priorities for Jose and the Black Rock Scuba team. The equipment was in excellent condition, and Jose’s calm, professional demeanor put everyone at ease. Throughout the dive, he checked on us regularly, making sure we were comfortable and enjoying the experience.

When staying in Maui, especially near Kaanapali, dive with Black Rock Scuba for shore dives off Sheraton Black Rock. I’m an old diver with 100 historical dives and rescue diver experience from California. Jose runs an awesome little operation, with latest gear (BCD, Regs, tanks, gauges, great selection of suites boots fins masks). You need not bring anything but your C card, and have fun. Had booth certified and non certified family members on this trip, multiple dives. During late December, whale migration thus you can clearly hear loud whales singing in the near vicinity off Black Rock. Definitely good chances you’ll not only see fishes, eels, but also sea turtles and curious dolphins. All from shore where Black Rock Scubas beach and hut locations. Again, Jose is the awesome manager and a guide. Our family had Chris as our guided dives. Super patient and expert diver/guide for divers of all experience levels, including this old salt.
