Cliff Dive Grill — Restaurant in Maui

During a recent trip to Maui, my family and I found Cliff Dive and decided to give it a try. I keep a vegan diet and my spouse is an omnivore. Finding good vegan fare is difficult and usually those restaurants don't come with a great view. Cliff Dive changed that for us.

First, the red pepper hummus was top notch. Their hummus is among the top 5 I have ever had and after 10 years of veganism, I know hummus. The hummus was served with whole carrots that were quick-blanched for the ideal combination of softness and crunchiness. I opted to replace cucumber for more carrots and was easily rewarded by that good decision. The naan that came with it was probably more vegetarian than vegan, but that was a small cheat. The kalamata olives and grape tomatoes were good additions, too.

The showstopper was the Buddha Bowl. OMG! Purple sweet potatoes, quinoa, edamame, and chickpeas all on a bed of super-fresh baby spinach. Pulling it all together was a tangy-sweet tahini-maple syrup vinagrette. The buddha bowl was an insanity of great flavors and textures. And this bowl was piled to the top with its ingredients. I didn't think I could devour it all, but I did.

This meal was so good, accompanied with an unbeatable view of Kaa'anpali Beach at sunset. We went back two days later. My spouse went for the buddha bowl and added the fresh catch. Both bowls were emptied again.

What made the meals so memorable was the wonderful service that came with the meal. Darci is on her 21st year there and Jamaya (sp?) was so attentive to all of our requests.

I cannot wait for the next trip to Maui. Cliff Dive will be a frequent visit...

The "Cliff Dive Grill" is a favorite lunch stop whenever we are in Maui. Located on the Sheraton Hotel property this little poolside/ beachside cafe offers a great view of "Black Rock" and the many brave (and not so brave) souls who jump, dive, or backflip off its 20+ foot crest. The food never disappoints and the drinks are all top shelf, as is the service! Treat yourself to a beachfront umbrella and chaise lounges for a very reasonable price. The Sheraton has a beach staff that can handle this request. (Look for a very tan smiling and lanyard wearing gentleman named Shawn. He's top shelf too!) If you go after 1:00pm the price drops. Call ahead for this service to make sure they have ample supplies on hand. They cater to their guests first. After a nice lunch do some snorkeling at the base of Black Rock ( be aware of people jumping from above. You'll be unpopular if you linger in the landing zone). Often times there are sea turtles very close to shore at the base of the rocks. A wide variety of fish are also present most of the time. On a very recent visit the water clarity was the best I had seen in several years! Riding the surf in this beautiful bay is a great pastime also. Be careful and never turn your back on the surf! Food and beverage prices are somewhat higher than other places, but hey, this is Maui at its finest and the quality of the entire experience more than...

My husband and I have worked in the industry for years. I’m known among my friends as an overly nice tipper, it’s rarely 20%, usually that’s my bare minimum if the service was decent. Andie was probably among top 3 worst servers I ever had. He treated us like we don’t belong there and couldn’t wait for us to leave. (Not that it matters but we both had Prada glasses and didn’t look like someone who won’t pay for their bill. I’m only mentioning that coz I didn’t get his behavior.) My husband asked to keep the menu and he took it from us five minutes ago so no food for him I guess lol. Then he brought the check while my drink was full and we had just been seating for 20mins with no intention of leaving at least for half an hour. Mind u at this point the restaurant is like half empty and he’s not busy at all 😂 At that point we decided, which sadly goes against my behavior usually- we decided not to tip coz he didn’t deserve it. He then brought the check 3 times and proceeded to pretty much harass us until my husband signed the check and the whole time I still had my drink full 😂 and mind u, I’ve been a bartender for 10 years, I was gonna get that second or maybe even a third drink and his tip would have been good if he showed basic human decency.
