Experienced snorkeler looking for quality upgrade to cheap equipment used for a few years. We snorkeled Maui on our own for 10 days but hated our cheap masks and snorkels from constant leaks, fitment issues and overall frustrations that slowly rob us of pure joy each time we are out.
We stopped by and said we want quality gear cause it's worth the experience for us. The lady spent time with us making sure the right mask fit, the right snorkel worked for us and made us feel our investment was a good choice. The gear is awesome and we came in looking for top gear as we were tired of cheap equipment being a frustration on a magical day.
We snorkel up to 3-5 hours a day on vacation everyday for some context. Comfort and fit really make us happy when you spend that much time in the water.
The equipment is well designed and they have many locations. I really liked the service we got from the Honokowai location.
To the person who helped us, many thanks for your patience and expertise. I was the gentlemen with the hat and blue face mask that was particular about getting teal colored...
Read moreWe got the most expensive package, which cost a little over $120 for two sets for a week. Expensive, but I figured the top of the line gear would be worth it. Allen didn't really care that we were there, he tossed us a mask and fins to try on then said pick a bag and we bagged it up ourselves. He didn't offer any advice on where to go snorkeling until I asked him at the end of the transaction. All aside we had a great time snorkeling, we decided to extend our rental 3 days at which point we called and were told "that's fine, we will settle up when you return it." So when we do return the gear, we are hit with a $118 bill - apparently it is policy to charge the daily rate beyond a week instead of extending the weekly rate! We could have bought two extremely nice sets of gear and brought it home with us for the outrageous $240 price we paid. We were beyond disappointed with snorkel Bob's and we won't be renting from them again. Two stars only because the gear...
Read moreMy mother had rented snorkelling equipment from here for two days during her vacation. When she went in, she explained that she was a beginner. They highly recommended that she get a curved flipper and when she expressed concern about walking to the water in them, they said that all flippers were hard to walk in. She found it impossible to walk in these and ended up falling by the waters edge and gashing her leg. When she returned the equipment, she asked another employee if they recommend these flippers for snorkelling off the beach, as she thought they might have assumed that she would be using them off a boat. She was cheekily told, “Sure, just not walking in them!” and it was then explained how to actually use the equipment -- one has to get chest deep in water before outing these flippers on.
It would have been nice for them to explain this when she rented the equipment. Of course it was someone else working when she...
