We love the Aston at Papakea itself and have stayed there before. This is the first find we've used Maui Dreams Come True and honestly, I'm not impressed. We stayed for 2 weeks in a studio unit, B-306. When we arrived, the room was lovely in appearance but upon further inspection... appearances were deceiving. The floor was absolutely filthy, we took off our shoes and our feet were black after 10 minutes of walking around the unit so we swept but found no dust pan so we had to leave a pile of hair, dirt and sand in the corner of our unit the entire time we were there. The fridge itself was not fully clean when we arrived so we had to use cleaning products to wipe it down, as there was grime/smears/food particles on the shelves and in the drawers as well as on the door. The bathroom sink did not drain so my Dad had to snake the drain himself and he pulled a HUGE hairball out of the drain... and I do not exaggerate how large and disgusting this thing was. Heaven knows how long that thing was in there or how many different people contributed to that but how disgusting!!! After he did that, the sink still did not drain properly. The mattress on the pull-out bed was a memory foam mattress that was so broken down that I could feel the metal frame through it and that made for painful wake ups. The bed itself was bent in places and made horrible noises when getting in and out, sounded as if it might break. Upon further inspection the legs were slightly bent and some of screws were half un-screwed and one was rusted. The cover sheet provided was much too large for the mattress and the pillow cases that fit had small bloodstains on them. The extra pillowcase were intended for king size Pillows so they were way too big for the Pillows but were much preferred to the blood stained sheets. The pillows themselves smelled like stale sweat, as if they hadn't been washed or replaced... which in a tropical location you would think you'd replace things more often due to moisture and sweat? The cable did not work, I followed all of the prompts and instructions and am technologically savvy and it did not work- instructions said to call property security to troubleshoot but we only wanted to watch 1 football game so it wasn't worth it, especially since I'd tried EVERYTHING already. Our coffee pot overflowed and was clearly broken. The instructions stated to call them with any issues but every day we found something else and we didn't think we should have to call over and over again. They did replace our coffee maker quickly and we appreciated that very much. The reality is, the property is beautiful and so is the unit however, attention to detail, cleanliness and hygiene is key. In their binder, Maui Dreams Come True states that the unit is "privately owned and the owners invest hundreds of thousands of dollars to maintain", so then why was the unit such a disaster? We were reminded over and over to respect the unit and not mess ANYTHING up, we paid over $2000 for our 2 weeks but walked into a unit that was not worth what we paid. These details make a huge difference for a guest's stay in paradise. Housekeeping should be checking all points and amenities for functionality and cleanliness. Pillows and mattresses should be replaced regularly as people SWEAT and it's humid and those things soak into fabrics not to mention it's disgusting to lay down and smell stale sweat in your bed. Having to snake your own drain and yank a ball of other people's hair and gunk out of it? Revolting. We love Maui and had a wonderful vacation but were very disappointed in this unit and in our experience with Maui Dreams Come True. If you market yourself as making dreams come true and constantly remind guests what the unit is worth, then make it worth it. We hope that major changes can be made so that the next guests can be more...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible! No AC and I reported this on check in day (Friday) of our 6 day stay. The entire stay the temperature has been between 83-89 degrees every single day. The property management assistant stated the owner said the unit supposed to be that way even though I told her the window ac unit is blowing out warm air. The property manager Lynn told me to just open up the doors and windows and it’ll cool down and I told her we would try that but if it doesn’t work I will call you tomorrow. I have texted and called numerous times as well as text pictures of the temperature recordings in the unit on multiple days. They decided to bring by two fans on Sunday which really didn't provide much relief of the heat in the unit. However we kept all the windows open and the back sliding door open as long as we could before going to bed so we could get some sleep without sweating. On Monday we get a notice on the door from the resort to close all windows, and doors from 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. because they're spraying the exterior for pest. Well the a.m. is when we wake up to open the door to cool the unit down from being closed up all night and getting hotter. I reported this to Lynn (property management) and she asked me "what do you want us to do?" Well Tuesday morning (today that I'm writing this review) at 6:43 a.m. she stated "Owner agreed to purchase a new air conditioner working on it with lowes I will keep you updated", mind you we check out tomorrow on the 16th! We left the condo at 8:30 a.m. today and came back at 5:17 p.m. and the temperature on all four fans reflects 89 degrees just as it did on Friday when we checked in with only the two fans. The unit is outrageously hot because the sun is beaming straight through the back door! My family and I are BEYOND upset considering we couldn't even cook in the unit because it was so hot and have to discard the food we bought at Costco. The last text I received from the property manager Lynn after I sent another photo of the temperature in the unit when we got back “it’s being installed tomorrow for an island we moved as fast as possible I’m sorry we did the best we can”. Are you kidding me! We visit Lahaina every year and this is the WORSE stay I’ve ever had! They could’ve sent maintenance out to try and fix the unit (maybe it needs freon or something) or could’ve replaced the unit on Saturday. Even my 11 year old son complained how hot it was in this place. Beware of owners cutting corners to make profit and not giving a crap about the customer. I have all text, photos and recorded calls as well. I AM DISGUSTED and it has pretty much ruined...
Read moreWe had a wonderful stay at Papakea, it’s a beautiful property, very well maintained. We enjoyed the pool, and lounging on the grass ocean front. I did the Lai making class which was fun and can take my beautiful Lai home with me. Check in was easy and the staff was friendly. We stayed for two weeks, our condo C-301 was very comfortable and had everything we needed. It is updated and decorated very nicely. There was a pound of local coffee waiting for us, and a drip coffee pot. I’m a tea drinker, and did find some tea left by someone else in the cupboard, it was nice to have an electric tea kettle. A nice addition for tea drinkers would be a tea pot. There was a few spices in the cabinet left by others, that we also added to. We did buy condiments and are leaving behind, but it looks like those they don’t keep for the next people. There weren’t any when we arrived. There is plastic wrap, a little foil and wax paper in the drawer. We did buy more toilet paper, there were two rolls to get you started. We will be leaving behind some. It is so nice having a washer and dryer. The view from our condo is gorgeous. I read and had my tea every morning enjoying the beautiful view from our lanai. It is in walking distance to grocery store, food truck park, coffee shops and restaurants. My favorite is a local family owned bakery right next door, Papi’s Ohana. The couple who runs it were delightful. They have the best cinnamon rolls and yummy Croissants, on Saturday they make pizzas, which was great! Just get your order in early in the day. It’s an easy drive into Lahaina. A few maintenance issues in our condo would make it a bit nicer, the overhead ceiling fan in bedroom did not work, however there are two stand up oscillating fans that help but on the floor so not as affective. A screen on far right bedroom window needs repair, has a hole in it and leaves can blow in. The ironing board did not function properly, couldn’t get it to stay open, so had to lay it on the bed to use it. It would be nice to have a few more cleaning products, spray cleaner for bathroom and toilet cleaner. There was some bowl cleaner, but was pretty dried up and I had to add water to get any out. The little blue ottoman has a missing rubber foot on bottom, exposed screw. Overall a very nice stay. The bed was comfortable, tv’s were good, Wi-Fi and cable worked well, comfortable couch and chair in living room, small table and chairs for eating or playing games. There are a few games in the closet. There are two folding beach chairs. Nice appliances that worked well. We would come...
