My partner and I, along with a few friends, decided to get a tattoo before leaving the island, and given the stellar reviews on Yelp and Google, we chose Sweet Trade. I reached out to Adam for a quote, and he recommended we come in to meet him in person. This was a smart suggestion as it helped us get a better feel for the place. When we arrived, Adam’s wife was also there and was incredibly helpful. We were all thrilled with our quotes and excited to schedule our tattoos for the next day before our flight. However, I did notice a couple of concerns that affected my overall experience. First, I was surprised to see an additional tax charged for our deposit, which was not mentioned upfront. It was peculiar that my partner and friends were quoted $150 each while my quote ranged from $350 to $400. I felt the down payment should correlate with the total price, and having us all put down $100 felt excessive. We were also charged a General Excise Tax (GE Tax) of 4.712%. I’ve dealt with many businesses in Hawaii, and I’ve never encountered this tax before. Adam explained that it’s a tax that is applicable to all, but it would have been more transparent to include it in the initial price. Additionally, I didn’t notice the tax details until a couple of days later, and regrettably, I didn’t check my receipt thoroughly at the time. This lack of clear communication is one reason I’m docking a star. While I wanted to give them a three-star rating, I recognize that this is a thriving small business, and I empathize with their situation. Another reason for the missing star was the customer service experience. Although Adam was very kind, it was concerning that he or his daughter had to step away from their tattooing duties to attend to walk-in customers multiple times. If I were in their chair and my artist had to leave for 5-10 minutes, I would not have been pleased. Given how busy they were, it seems a dedicated receptionist or front desk person might alleviate some of the pressure. Overall, the tattoos turned out beautifully, and I appreciate the artistry, but clearer communication and improved customer service would elevate the experience significantly.

Spent several days in Kaanapali in November 2019 for a family vacation. Out of the blue I decided to get a tattoo in Maui. It's been 15 years since my last tattoo. I researched all the tattoo shops around the area and kept seeing great reviews about Adam. I decided to drop in to the shop and chat with Adam with the tattoo ideas I had in mind. He immediately took an interest in what I wanted done and gave me several great suggestions. I decided to let him design everything. The next day, he opened his shop up on his day off just to do my tattoo. His Titbetan Buddhist Phurba (dagger) design was so cool and authentic. It was more than I could've imagined. He also designed a simple but yet cool meaningful turtle tattoo. I had great conversations with him and loved the music that he cranks up while he zones out and gets to work. He has a very even touch and the tattoo process did not hurt at all. I am very pleased with what he designed and the whole process. Adam is a very straight up cool guy and extremely talented artist. It is worth checking out his shop and considering him to ink you. I will definitely be back to get more tattoos from him each time I go to Maui. Thanks so much Adam. You rock!! \m/

My experience at this Tattoo shop was FANTASTIC! I have been thinking of getting a Tattoo for many years. I had no idea how the process would work but Adam was absolutely great to work with. He guided me through the process from start to finish. The really awesome thing was he first did about a half hour interview with me to find out what I was looking for with some very good questions that clarified what I wanted and gave him ideas that he incorporated into my Tattoo making it more than just art on my body it has significance to me and my life. He advised on time frames and Tattooed me on my last day in Maui so I could enjoy sand and surf on my vacation without worry. The Icing on the cake was the hand drawing with descriptions he provided me with from his book where he keeps a record of every Tattoo he has done. What a great experience and cool guy. I highly recommend Sweet Trade if you are on Maui looking for some work! Mahalo to you Adam and crew, my new friend and Tattoo mentor!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Sweet Trade Tattoo, and I can confidently say that it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and professionalism that immediately put me at ease.

The studio itself is impeccably clean and beautifully designed, creating a welcoming and inspiring environment. The attention to detail in the decor mirrors the meticulous care the artists put into their work. Every corner of the studio exudes creativity and passion for the craft.

The artist I worked with, Adam, was incredibly talented and attentive. They took the time to listen to my ideas and provided valuable input to ensure that the final design was perfect. Their artistic skill and precision were evident in every stroke, resulting in a tattoo that exceeded my expectations. The dedication to creating a piece of art that was uniquely mine was truly remarkable.

What stood out the most was the level of care and hygiene maintained throughout the process. The entire team at Sweet Trade Tattoo prioritizes safety and cleanliness, which is incredibly reassuring. They adhere to the highest standards, making the entire experience not only enjoyable but also safe.

In addition to the outstanding artistry, the customer service was top-notch. The staff is friendly, approachable, and genuinely passionate about their work. They made sure I was comfortable and informed every step of the way. It’s clear that they genuinely care about their clients and strive to make every visit a memorable one.

Overall, Sweet Trade Tattoo is a gem in the world of tattoo artistry. The combination of exceptional talent, a welcoming atmosphere, and a commitment to safety and customer satisfaction sets them apart. If you’re looking for a tattoo studio that goes above and beyond, look no further than Sweet Trade Tattoo. I can’t recommend them...

Before I do my review, I'd just like to say Adam at Sweet Trade Tattoo runs an extremely clean and welcoming business. Not only is his shop clean with beautiful artwork done by him but the quality of his work and experience is something that I personally have experienced. Attention to detail in everything he has done. I recently got a tattoo from Adam and I couldn't be happier. I lived on the island an recently moved. The first thing I thought of as soon as I landed in LAX was my tattoo and I'm bummed because I can't get more from him until I return. I became friends with him for a very short period of time until I had to leave the island. I lived my tattoo so much that I asked him if I could use his artwork for my Business that I am in the process of creating. His art work will not only be on my arm but it will be the main focal point on my packaging of Beef Jerky. Hats shirts stickers you name it his art will be seen by thousands. My Hawaiians, this guy is legit. He knows all the Hawaiian/poly and many more types of true meanings. His shop should be filled with all locals that want a real true experience with sweet trade tattoo 100 stars for this great tattoo shop on the BEAUTIFUL island of Maui. Aloha and god bless to you all. Mahalo Adam for creating a great business. Can't wait to come back and get some...
