Usually my experience with the store and its employees has been amazing. The last few times however I haven’t been very impressed; the employees are still wonderful as ever. What I’m not impressed with is the buying process as of late.
When I first started taking my clothes here, they were very receptive and would buy most of my items. I am down a size in clothes and have found that since then, they haven’t been buying many of the items I bring in. I completely understand that they have a large inventory of Plus Sized Clothes, but I truly don’t understand why all of a sudden my clothes aren’t being taken. They have told me “unfortunately we don’t take things that won’t sell”. I completely get that 110%. But I feel like they aren’t really taking what they could be taking. I brought in a large bin of clothes on 07/06/24 and of all the items I had, they took 5. $18 Cash or $25 Store Credit. I took the cash as I do need the money right now. And they pay much better than Plato’s Closet ever would. So don’t believe the reviews saying Plato’s is better because they’re not. Uptown Is MUCH better and pays a lot better than the others. I just really was not impressed the last few times I’ve gone in. I truly wish they’d take more of the stuff. And I understand that what I’ve brought in is a bit “older”. Some of the items I didn’t think they’d take so I was expecting some of the clothes back, but not the entire bin minus a few.
I don’t want this review to deter anyone from visiting the store; the staff is absolutely amazing and I couldn’t ask for better service whenever I visit.
I work highly recommend going here, but for those expecting to have their higher end items or their “older” items (things such as clothes from the 2010’s) to expect to get lots of money for said items bc they have to be able to make money and price the things to sell.
I plan on coming back again, and hopefully I’ll be able to still sell some...
Read moreVisited today. Trying to off load some of my wife's old clothes. They weren't even old just stuff she couldn't fit any more. Various dresses, jeans, etc. They said they could use none of it. Wife always buys trendy and stylish clothing however she is plus sized so I'm not sure if that had something to do with it. They just said it wasn't stylish? As I was waiting for the offer that never came i did peruse the store and didn't see anything that was not too different from what she was trying to sell. I mean i can't imagine that a rack of sweat shirts from a closed ufc gym was more stylish than all my wife's clothing from Lane Bryant and Torrid . Or the fact that i saw the exact same little mermaid tshirt on the rack that my wife had but maybe they only needed one. Maybe they dont need as many plus sized clothes? They did keep the clothing because they claim they donate clothing so hopefully the clothing will find a home. I think next time I will.donate to.dress for success or someplace similar. Pros store organized and neat, workers friendly and helpful. They kept the clothes for donating and I didn't have to take them. Cons unclear as to the full criteria for.buying. they did say they typically buy clothing within the last 1to 3 years but then I see old coogie tshirts or old style Levi's that aren't made any more on the racks. And some rocawear jeans(?)
There wasn't anything intrinsically wrong with my visit. Just the fact that they could use none of what I bought in some stuff still had tags on or was never worn struck me.as odd. As I was leaving a guy bought in a bag of old sneakers. Like what is the criteria? How does uptown know if they are buying genuine articles and not reps? Maybe they have a limit as too how much plus sized clothing they need..if so some transparency about that...
Read more[ ] Had an awesome experience here! Right when I came in they gave me a heads up about extended wait. The check in process was super straightforward, made for a great start! The store itself is quite nice and very well thought out. In the evening I got a text saying the items were ready. I asked if I could come in the next day, and the automated system sent a message saying they didn’t pick any of my items. I was bummed and went back the next day, they once again were super kind, I showed them the message, they were super understanding, apologized for the confusion and mentioned they would follow up. I wish I had gotten their names, they were super helpful and so kind explaining everything with the offer. I thought the offer was good, much better than comparing services such as Plato’s Closet. It was something around 20 dollars for three older but in fashion items. They have a service to donate, but are also happy to keep the clothes to give back to the customer. Overall a great experience, and although I didn’t buy anything this time I thought the items were fairly priced, and they had lots of great brands such as Aritzia, Lululemon, and Brandy Melville. Overall a great place, and I will...
