The gym is always clean, there's always someone wiping down empty machines, and there is plenty of equipment. Many tvs in front of the treadmills and bikes for viewing. They play decent music in case you don't have your own. It's worth 20 bucks for the massage beds/chairs, tanning and the trainer option, also worth 10 bucks without it. However, I received A call from A manager stating that I wasn't receiving my discount and to come in and speak with A manger and show them my badge to fix it. Came in and spoke to Iris, I showed her my badge and told her that's all I had to do last time (when signing up) she sighed, rolled her eyes at me stating she can't do anything because she needs to see my paystub as well. All other employees have been nice, and this was not my first unwelcoming interaction with her either. Dissapointed in her customer service. I've worked in customer service for awhile, and that is not how you handle situations.
After the interaction Jesse, who was present during the interaction, was passing by and let me know that upon review of my account I was getting the discount. I appreciate his...
Read moreUpdate: After cancelling my membership early on... I came back a week later and have happily been a member for months. As it turns out, the limiting factor in my fitness level isn't having a squat rack; it's actually going to the gym, and this place is conducive to making me want to go.
Pros: It's super cheap, and the tanning beds are level 3s (stand-up and lay down options). Those alone are worth the cost of a membership for anyone who goes twice a month... especially if you bring a guest (which you can for free, with the black card). The equipment is fairly new, the gym is cleaner than most, and the staff is all very helpful and friendly.
Cons: No squat racks, bench presses, preacher curl station, etc., and a bunch of cheesy stuff written on the walls like "you belong" and "judgement free zone" that make it hard to take the place seriously. They have a ton of TVs, but every single one faces the cardio section (which is the majority of the gym), so there's no way to keep up on football games while getting a...
Read moreThe one thing I truly HATE about Planet Fitness is that whenever I'm working out at one I feel nervous that I'll drop a weight or grunt loudly and get scolded like a child by the staff or get blasted by the ever menacing "Lunk Alarm". There are some other things that annoy me about PF's like guests working out in jeans/street clothing and the lack of heavy free weights.
But they are decent for beginners and the price conscious. I recently switched to Crutch which is an amazing gym with every workout machine/free weights imaginable, classes, a sauna, knowledgeable staff, and much more. And you can grunt, drop weights, drink water from a milk jug, as much as you feel like without getting shamed by the staff.
Also I don't know why this bothers me so much, but when I recently cancelled my membership I was asked why, and I replied I'm switching to another gym, and on the cancellation email I received it stated I was canceling because of "medical" problems, kinda shady, but likely a...
