Seriously what is up with these Ulta girls. They need to be careful and more respectful to their clients. Especially the "make up artists/consultants" that think that their own way of doing make up on their own face is how everyone else should do it, barring difference in skin tone and overall taste. My friend and I came in (I was there to help her pick out her make up, being a professional make up artist for 8 years, doing stage and film make up for a bit before leaving that career for a more static job that didn't require me to travel as much) to look for some everyday make up. Both of us came in there without make up on (it was a tuesday people and we work in IT haha), and were looking at some foundation, the ulta rep offered to color match my friend as I was perusing the items right beside them and my friend mentioned she brought me to help her cz i was a make up artist. The Ulta girl started interviewing me, "do you have a cosmetology license?" "how long have you been a make up artist?" etc like I was at a job interview and really why ask me those? Im just tagging along I wasnt even saying anything! So i just went eh, it was a long time ago and I'm old haha.
My friend is very light, cool tones, and very blonde. This girl is an olive skinned brunette and she kept insisting my friend buy this brow kit that was 3 shades darker and for her to use all these pointless stencils etc. My friend was overwhelmed and it was obvious but was too nice to say no (as giving me the big eyed look of help) so I stepped in and asked why the shade is there a way to apply it in a lighter way or does she recommend a certain way of applying it otherwise, and why does she think its necessary for my friend to use stencils every day, maybe a quick technique she can share? She got really pissed and defensive and said well fine do whatever you guys want and walked away in a huff. My friend and i stood there in disbelief, it was like she threw a tantrum, we really were just chill about it but she was so dramatic it was funny. She seriously recommended pretty much all the product that was on her face that day. None of them matched my friend's skin tone. Oi. They need to get trained better, in at least the fundamentals and also in customer service. Not acceptable behavior at all,...
Read moreReposting my Yelp review here. I set up an appointment at the salon a week prior to get my hair dyed an all-over dark, emerald/ forest green. The girl on the phone told me that they had the dye for that. I showed up the day of my appt and they did not have the dye. The manager had to run to another salon and pick up the dye. Her and the stylist doing my hair told me that they could add yellow and neon green to the tips free of charge. I said yes, but made it very very clear that I only wanted small hints of the lighter colors at the tips, like tiny tiny highlights. First off, the stylist bleached my hair for 2 and a half hours, way longer than necessary for my already dirty blonde hair. I found out later when I went to get my hair fixed at a different salon that the stylist had actually overbleached my hair so much that it will not take dye anymore. So she basically ruined my hair. Then, she used the complete wrong dye and my hair was a BRIGHT aquamarine blue color with huge uneven chunks of neon green and yellow at the tips. Not even a little bit close to what I asked for. I am not good at confrontation so I just paid and left. The next day I got the courage to call, tell the manager what happened, and ask for a refund. The manager was not apologetic in the slightest, and actually told me that they COULD NOT give me a refund but instead could have the same stylist try to fix it. This didn't sound right so I called Ulta's corporate and the lady told me that their policy is that unhappy salon customers are allowed a refund OR a redo, not just a redo. They sent an email to this Ulta's managers telling them to get ahold of me for my refund. I never got a call from this Ulta so I called corporate again and the lady told sent yet another email to this Ulta, this time telling them that they HAD to give me a refund. I waited a day, never got a call, so I finally went in and told them I was there for my refund. The manager was so rude while ringing up my refund, she would not look me in the eyes, and the only thing she said to me this entire experience was, "You're not taking back your tip, right?" I am so...
Read moreWill never go into this store after what happened to my daughter! She is a 27 year old beautiful Black woman, expecting her first baby. She came to visit me this past Sunday, in the course of our visit, she told me about her experience at Ultra at The Village, the previous Friday. She said when she walked in, a sales clerk started watching her, then after awhile she walked over and asked if she could help her. My daughter told her she was looking for a good, but reasonably, priced foundation. The sales clerk told her to go to the NYC section. Daughter said no, she didn't want that. The clerk said, "Can you afford it!" Daughter said yes. Clerk showed her some foundation, but kept asking if she could afford it! Through this whole interaction, clerk kept asking if she could afford it. At the check out, clerk picked up some type of make-up, not anything my daughter was interested in, asked daughter, again, if she could afford it.. Daughter said yes, because, in her words, "the clerk was so intimidating and judgmental, I bought it." She spent $100 and all she wanted was a simple foundation. I was furious, so with my daughter, I went to Ultra to talk to the clerk. She denied she waited on my daughter, but daughter pointed her out. Manager was brought into the conversation. Both started making excuses, first saying it is always soooo busy, especially on Saturday, then when told she was there on Friday, they said Friday was soooo busy!! Maybe a sales rep waited on daughter. Just making excuses, don't remember an apology, which would have been the least they could have done. I'm furious with myself for not asking them to refund the money daughter spent on something she didn't want because she felt so intimidated. I'm a white woman, was asked right away if they could help me, when I walked in. I'm suggesting Ultra puts a sign up that says-----Only rich, white women allowed!!!!! I'm so upset about the treatment my beautiful Black daughter received, I believe the Human Rights Commission will be my next stop. I'm a very calm, peaceable woman---BUT---this was...
