Sahara Banquet Hall — Attraction in Mesa

DO NOT GET THIS HALL! The owners are scammers and try to lie about everything. It is not worth the price. You have to pay for everything and they don’t offer anything. If you are looking for packages, they don’t have any. It’s expensive and not worth it, and super UNPROFESSIONAL place, the place looks old and run down on the outside, the inside is remodeled but was done very poorly. The owner doesn’t have contracts and doesn’t include anything in the price. Paid $3,300 with cleanup included. $3000 was for the reception hall, $100 for the bartender, and $200 for the servers. I had asked the owner if we could come in a day prior if they had no party to decorate early because we had a lot of things to bring and we wouldn’t have time during the actually date to come. When we arrived to the hall she had the wrong table covers and tried to argue with me about the color mentioning that I agreed it was white when I had messages where I said it was black. She was trying to convince me to keep the white table cloths but I said no she had to change them. After this she kept giving us a harder time. She hadn’t reached out to the servers or bartender for the party so we weren’t sure if we would have someone. When the time came the owner wanted the money in front but the staff had not arrived. I mentioned this and she got offended and irritated. I also mentioned the bathrooms were not yet clean or the floors and the party was going to start in an hour. She said they were, and the start would arrive 30 min before, and the bar tender arrived late into the party, my sister had to serve alcohol for the first two hours. When we paid the amount her husband kept harassing us during the party interrupting every chance he could to ask us to pay the amount when we had already paid his wife. They had asked for a deposit before and were asking for another $500 deposit. This made no sense. They kept saying it was to ensure we wouldn’t damage anything and to make sure we would leave on time. At the end of the party we were still stuck cleaning up the pace, the husband proceeded to hand us trash bags. When supposedly the cleaning was included. Horrible place. I do NOT recommend this place to anyone. There are too many issues. She was nice when we were 1st talking and she was trying to get my business. But then.. I was not able to decorate until the day of the event. She was running late for me to be able to get into the venue. To do decorating. The day of the event, she wanted an extra $500 for a deposit. Which was not disclosed in any of our conversations or contract. She didn't have the number of tables I requested, she then told me I would have to pay more money. I showed her our agreement and she said that it was wrong. But eventually put up more chairs and tables for no additional fee. The venue bathrooms, floors, and bar areas were not clean when the event started. After the party she complained about how dirty the place was,when we actually cleaned up more than we should have since we had to pay $100 for cleaning. Both the men's and women's bathroom stalls were breaking. Then, the mens bathroom had rusted screws that broke off at the party. The womens toilet paper holder kept falling off. We had to force the stall door open and closed. There were no paper towels to dry hands, only the air dryer. She kept $100 for clean up and then decided to keep another $100 for the broken rusted door. While I was decorating, she had customers viewing the venue. My cousin had a party earlier in the year and had issues with the men's bathroom. She "swears to God" that it wasn't that way. That should have been a red flag for me. I assumed everything would be good. If you decide to use this place, make sure you document EVERYTHING! She will find a way to get more money from you. Take before and after pictures. Record your conversations because she says something different each time. Don't assume you understand what she is requesting. Be very detailed. I chose this place because it was close to my dad. The party was for him. He is very sick and not able to commute far. I do NOT recommend this...

Owner squeezed extra money out of us the day of the event claiming to have given “the wrong price” for the amount of tables we agreed on when presented with the receipt. The bathroom was filthy and multiple stall doors were falling off of the hinges and installed so poorly the doors didn’t even close. At the end of the night she claimed it was our guests that broke them and refused to give our full deposit back on these grounds. Her son clearly knew full well that she was wrong for what she did but unfortunately he doesn’t seem to have any say. I felt personally offended that she said, “I swear to God” when claiming her stalls have never been damaged. Another family member of ours had an event there a year and he complained to me that the bathrooms were the same almost a year ago and he was squeezed for more money. Not a good...
